The Sixth Scoop
Nichols News, 34th Edition
Dear 6th Grade Families,
🌸 Happy Mother’s Day!
To all of the amazing moms, mother-figures, and caregivers—whether through birth, adoption, fostering, guardianship, or any other path—we celebrate you today. Thank you for the endless sacrifices and the constant love you give your children. Motherhood is truly a gift, and I feel so grateful to experience it myself.
This weekend, I had the joy of watching my youngest son head off to his senior prom—a reminder of how quickly time passes. It feels like just yesterday I was attending his kindergarten Mother’s Day performance.
We also want to acknowledge that Mother’s Day can be a difficult time for some—whether you are grieving the loss of your mother, navigating a complicated relationship, or experiencing the absence of a child. Please know we are thinking of you and hope that you find moments of peace and joy this week, perhaps in the blooming flowers, a kind word, or a smile from someone you love.
🎓 Final Stretch of the School Year
Can you believe we only have three and a half weeks left of school? This time of year often feels like a long road trip where we’re all eager to reach our destination. As we approach the finish line, we tend to see an increase in student behavior issues. We truly appreciate your continued partnership and support in helping students finish strong.
Thank you for entrusting us with your children this school year. We hope your child has had a positive experience as a Nichols Lion!
đź—Ł Student Voice: End-of-Year Focus Groups
We want to hear directly from our students about their experience this year. We’ll be hosting student focus groups to give our 6th graders the chance to share their thoughts on what worked well and how we can improve. Select students will receive an email inviting them to participate in a casual “Chat & Chew” session with staff. Our goal is to make their middle school experience the best it can be.
📊 iReady Assessments This Week
This week, students will take their end-of-year iReady Math assessments. These tests help us measure each student’s growth over the year and guide our planning for the beginning of 7th grade.
âś… Please ensure your child:
-
Brings their iPad fully charged each day.
-
Gets a good night’s sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.
Your support makes a huge difference in helping students feel prepared and confident.
As always, thank you for being a vital part of our school community. If you have not completed the language selection form, please click on this form by WEDNESDAY, MAY 14 and complete it. If you have any questions or need anything, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Wishing you a joyful and meaningful week,
Ms. Brunson
Sixth Grade's Sensational Fun-Filled Field Day!!
Attention All 6th Grade Parents!!!
We are so excited to announce that our annual Field Day is just around the corner! This is always one of the most fun and memorable events of the school year, and we are looking forward to a day full of games, team spirit, and celebration.
To help make the day a success, we are reaching out to see if any parents or guardians would be willing to volunteer. We are especially in need of support at our snack station and various activity stations throughout the event.
Your presence and help would mean so much to our students and staff!
In addition, we are kindly asking for snack donations. We are hoping to provide a small variety of treats for students to enjoy during the day. If you're able, we’d appreciate donations of any of the following:
A sweet/healthy snack (cookies, fruit snacks, fruit, fruit cups, etc.)
A salty snack (pretzels, crackers, chips)
A drink (juice boxes or pouches)
Lastly, if anyone is willing to donate or lend us a Bluetooth speaker (preferably a larger one), we’d love to have some music playing throughout the day in place of a DJ.
If you’re interested in volunteering, donating snacks, or lending a speaker, please reach out to us by Friday, May 16th.
Thank you so much for your support—we can’t wait to celebrate with our students!
Thanks,
Teacher Jahad (jahadk@district65.net)
Mrs. Diaz (diazd@district65.net)
