Welcome, Rising 6th Graders!

We are excited to welcome our future 6th graders to our STEM Magnet community! Course selections made with elementary school counselors will be reviewed and updated once acceptance lists are finalized. This space will continue to be updated with important information—please check back soon!

I visited your Rising 7th grade students during their Science classrooms on Wednesday January 14th, 2026. Students were presented on what courses they can take for academics and electives. Students in 7th grade STEM will be taking a high school credit course and will have an opportunity to choose another high school credit course by taking Spanish 1! Please note that in order to earn a high school credit, students must not only pass the class but also meet the 90% Texas Rule on Attendance. Attached below is what your student course cards will look like and elective options. Students completed filling out their course planning cards and will take it home this week to share with their parents/guardians. Before winter break counselors visited with all 8th graders through their Future investigations class to discuss High School Endorsements and Programs of Study. As we prepare our 8th graders for High School registration in February, we want to ensure that they are well versed in understanding their choices for High School and that begins with choosing an endorsement.

Students who have decided to return back to their neighborhood campus and not accept their automatic seat at John Jay Science & Engineering Academy will have the opportunity to meet their home campus counselor. On February 19, 2026 students will be meeting their high school counselor at Northside Activity Center. Be on the lookout for more information!

December 11th, 2025 - John Jay HS Mustang Rally Visit

January 16th, 2026 - John Jay HS Electives visiting all 8th grade students

January 28th, 2026 - John Jay HS School Counselor visiting all 8th grade students

End of February 2026 - All students will be registered for next school year courses.
