Middle School Facilities Project Update
New Classroom Wing
Work is continuing to progress on the new classroom/storm shelter addition at BMS. On the exterior, roofing is now complete and focus has shifted to working on tasks associated with the exterior wall envelope. Inside the addition, door frame installation, painting, and mechanical/electrical/plumbing rough-ins are well underway. In the coming weeks, casework, lockers, and ceiling systems will arrive on-site for install. With interior and exterior finish work starting throughout the whole addition, it is exciting to start seeing glimpses of the finished look.
Other Work Kicking Off This Summer
BIG changes will be coming to the rest of the BMS building over the summer months. Once the school year is over, crews will begin installing temporary walls and barriers inside the school to isolate the phase 2 construction activities from the rest of the building. Once complete, crews will begin selective demolition activities on the inside of the building to get ready for mass building demolition towards the end of June or beginning of July. Phase 2 mass demolition will entail full removal of the portions of the existing building that make up B-Hallway and C-Hallway. As students return to the building for school in August, new construction on the phase 2 area of the building will be in full swing.

BCSD Accepting Applications For 4-Year-Old Preschool Program
The Bettendorf Community School District is now accepting preschool applications for the 2026-2027 school year. If your child will be four years old on or before September 15, 2026, he/she is eligible to participate.
Funding provided by the State of Iowa in support of the Statewide Voluntary Preschool Program allows us to place children four years of age in local preschool programs. Families of preschoolers can receive preschool education at no charge for 10 hours per week with parents paying for the balance of the attendance time.
The local preschools participating include: B4 Learning Center, KinderCare Learning Center, Redeemer Preschool, and Skip-A-Long Child Development Services.
Bettendorf Community School District provides preschool classrooms at Grant Wood Elementary School, Mark Twain Elementary School and Neil Armstrong Elementary School. Children that meet economic eligibility criteria are given preference in the BCSD public school preschool classes.
