zoom_out_map

Dear Proviso East Families,

Proviso East High School will administer the PreACT on Thursday, October 8, 2026, to students in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades. Students will test according to their current grade level based on credits earned toward graduation. The regular school start time will remain the same. Breakfast will be available beginning at 7:05 a.m., and students should report to their assigned testing rooms at 8:00 a.m. Testing will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Students should arrive on time, well rested, and prepared with a fully charged school-issued laptop and its charger. Students will report to the cafeteria for lunch at approximately 12:00 p.m., and students will be dismissed at 12:25 p.m. Buses are scheduled to depart at 12:30 p.m.

Because this is a practice assessment, there will be no makeup testing day.

We strongly encourage students to be present and prepared to make the most of this opportunity. Senior students will not have an attendance day at school on Thursday, October 8, 2026. We encourage seniors to use the day productively by participating in a college or career readiness activity, such as:

  • Visiting a college or university
  • Completing community service hours
  • Attending a job interview
  • Participating in another college or career readiness activity

Seniors should keep documentation of the community service activity they complete and be prepared to provide it to the school.

Thank you for supporting our students and helping them make the most of this important practice opportunity.

Warm regards,

Proviso East High School

Proviso East is preparing to host an Early Voting Day on Thursday, October 15, 2026, as part of the Early Voting High School Program. This special opportunity will allow eligible students and staff to participate in the voting process right here at school.

Voter Registration Opportunity on Monday, October 5

On Monday, October 5, we will welcome representatives from the Office of Speaker Emanuel 'Chris' Welch to Proviso East to assist students who will be 18 years old on or before November 3, 2026, with voter registration. Students may stop by during their lunch period on Monday, October 5, to register to vote. This opportunity will help eligible students prepare to participate in Early Voting Day on October 15.

Who Can Vote on October 15?

Students, staff, and faculty who meet the eligibility requirements may cast a ballot during Early Voting Day. Parents and members of the public will not be permitted to vote at the school site.

To be eligible to vote, a student must:

  • Be a Suburban Cook County resident
  • Be 18 years old on or before November 3, 2026
  • Be registered to vote, or complete same-day voter registration if not already registered
  • Provide two forms of identification, with at least one showing the voter's current address, if completing same-day registration

Preparing Our Next Generation of Voters

This Cook County program provides students with an opportunity to learn about the voting process and participate in civic life. By creating opportunities for eligible students to register and vote, we can help strengthen civic engagement, encourage voter participation, and empower the next generation of voters. We encourage families to talk with eligible students about voter registration and the importance of participating in the democratic process. Additional information about Early Voting Day will be shared with students and families as we get closer to October 15.

If you have questions about this opportunity, please contact Mrs. Hobbs at chobbs@pths209.org.

Proviso East Families, We've Got You Covered! Proviso East Families, We've Got You Covered!

At Proviso East, we believe every student should have a strong team of caring adults behind them. Whether your student needs academic guidance, help working through a challenge, social-emotional support, or simply someone to talk to, we are here to help. Each grade level has a dedicated student support team, including deans, counselors, social workers, and special education case managers. These team members work closely with students and families to help address concerns, connect students with resources, and support their success throughout high school. We also have a principal who believes in being accessible. Mrs. Fox-Crump’s door is always open, and she welcomes the opportunity to listen, answer questions, and support families.

Stay Connected Through PowerSchool and Schoology

One of the easiest ways to stay connected to your student’s progress is to make PowerSchool and Schoology part of your weekly routine. PowerSchool gives you a snapshot of your student’s grades, attendance, and academic progress. If you have questions about your student’s academic performance, you can also contact their teachers directly by clicking the staff member’s name in PowerSchool. Schoology keeps you connected to what’s happening in the classroom, including assignments, resources, and teacher updates.

Taking a few minutes each week to check both platforms can help you catch concerns early, celebrate progress, and make sure your student is keeping up with assignments and deadlines. Checking in with your student about what they’re working on, what’s going well, or where they may need support can also help them stay organized and take ownership of their learning.

Keeping an Eye on the BAG Report

Our Behavior, Attendance, and Grades (BAG) Report gives us another way to look at the whole student and identify where additional support may be needed.

By looking at behavior, attendance, and grades together, our team can be proactive, address concerns early, and connect students with the support they need. It also gives us an opportunity to recognize students who are making positive choices and showing progress.

More Ways to Support Our Students

Our support extends beyond the classroom. Proviso East is also home to the Loyola School-Based Health Center, a medical center that provides accessible health and wellness services for our students. The center is staffed by two nurse practitioners, a medical doctor, a dietitian, and social workers, giving students and families access to a range of services and support right here at school. We also offer several opportunities for families to engage with Proviso East each month, including meetings, events, programs, and activities. We encourage families to attend, ask questions, meet our staff, and take advantage of the many ways to stay connected to our school community.

A Reminder About Being On Time

We will also continue our Hall Sweep Initiative because being on time and staying in class matters. The first and final 10 minutes of each period are valuable instructional time, and we want our students present, engaged, and ready to learn for the entire class.

We’re Here When You Need Us

Whether you have a question about a grade, attendance, an assignment, a student concern, or simply aren’t sure who to contact, please reach out. We would much rather have a conversation and help you find the right resource than have a family try to figure it out on their own. Your involvement matters. When families and schools communicate, stay connected, and work together, our students have a stronger support system behind them. Below, you’ll find the contact information for each grade-level support team. Save it, share it, and reach out whenever you need us. We’re here for our Pirates and their families.

Class of 2027: Senior Year Is Here! Class of 2027: Senior Year Is Here!

Dear Senior Families,

Senior year is an exciting time, and there is a lot to look forward to. It is also a year filled with important deadlines, graduation requirements, college and career decisions, and special moments that students will remember for years to come. Our goal is simple: We want every member of the Class of 2027 to cross the stage at graduation. Reaching that goal takes communication, planning, and support from students, families, and the Proviso East team.

As of September 2026, 360 students entered the Class of 2027.

Currently:

  • 290 students are on pace to graduate

  • 70 students are not currently designated as Grade 12

  • Our goal is 100% graduation

If your student is still working toward senior standing or needs additional credits, please stay connected with their counselor and grade-level support team. We want to identify what students need and help them get back on track.

Academic Support Is Available

Students have several resources available to help them succeed.

Math tutoring is available Monday through Thursday after school with Mr. Zabrodsky in Room 182N. No appointment is needed.

Students who need to make up credits may also be enrolled in subject-specific Credit Recovery classes. If your student has a subject make-up course, encourage them to complete it as soon as possible. School counselors will contact students and families when additional information or action is needed. Most importantly, encourage your senior to stay focused and avoid failing courses. Every course can affect their path to graduation.

Our support also includes:

  • Counselor and social worker support

  • BAG Reports and Jeopardy Meetings/letters

  • Meetings with the 12th Grade Team and grade-level support staff

  • Senior contracts and parent meetings

ACT Requirement

Students must take the ACT to graduate.

Students must have earned at least 13 credits during the previous school year to be eligible to take the ACT. Grade-level standing is also based on credits earned during the previous school year.

If you have questions about your student’s ACT eligibility or testing status, please contact their counselor.

College, Financial Aid & Career Planning

Application season is here, and we encourage families to begin planning now.

Students can receive support with:

  • College applications

  • Scholarship searches and deadline reminders

  • FAFSA and financial aid assistance

  • College representative visits

  • PEHS and college campus visits

  • FERPA authorization

  • Career and postsecondary planning

Students should check their Proviso email regularly for scholarship and FERPA information. Students can also use Teams to ask questions and submit information about scholarships they have received. Our students have many options after high school. For students who are not planning to attend a four-year college, there are other pathways to explore, including apprenticeship programs, military opportunities, beauty school, career training programs, and other postsecondary options.
