Where Little Panther Cubs Begin BIG Journeys Where Little Panther Cubs Begin BIG Journeys

From the Principal From the Principal

This is how we Take Chances, Make Mistakes and Get Messy! Our little Panther Cubs are learning to ROAR with pride and how “we do school”!

🦃 Week 14: Gratitude, Giving, and Growing!

What a wonderful Week 13 it has been at Luce Road. Our classrooms were full of curiosity, laughter, and growing independence as our Cubs continued to learn, explore, and take care of one another. The pictures below show just how boldly our students take chances, make mistakes, and get messy at Luce Road. It has been inspiring to see routines strengthen, friendships deepen, and kindness shine through each day.

Week 13 reminded us how much growth has already happened, and Week 14 will bring even more opportunities for learning, celebration, and connection as we move closer to the holiday season.

Across all three programs, Childcare, GSRP, and Young 5s, students are working hard in Early Literacy and Math. Our Cubs are practicing letters, sounds, storytelling, counting, number recognition, shapes, patterns, and early problem solving. These skills build a strong foundation for our little learners as they continue their educational journey. Watching their confidence grow each week has been one of the highlights of this fall.

We have introduced Tucker the Turtle and the Turtle Technique as part of our social emotional learning. Students are learning how to pause, recognize big feelings, take a deep breath, and calm their bodies before choosing what to do next. Tucker helps our Cubs understand that all feelings are okay, and that they can use tools to manage frustration, sadness, or anger in safe and healthy ways. Families can use this strategy at home as well by reminding children to stop, tuck, and breathe.

This month we are learning about Gratitude. Gratitude means choosing to appreciate the people and things in our lives. It means being thankful. Gratitude is something we show through our actions. When our Cubs say thank you to their teachers, share with friends, help clean up, or give their families a big hug, they are practicing gratitude. These small moments fill our classrooms with joy, kindness, and warmth.

We are also focusing on using Kind Words. Using kind words means saying things that make others feel happy, cared for, and loved. We use our words to help, share, and learn, not to hurt or make others feel sad. When we say things like please, thank you, good job, I like your picture, you can play with me, and have a great day, we make Luce Road a welcoming and joyful place for everyone. I challenge all our Cubs to use only Kind Words this month.

November is also Homeless Awareness Month. As a way for our students to practice kindness in action, we are continuing our Coins for a Cause drive. Every penny collected goes directly toward supporting local shelters and families in need. It is a simple and powerful way for our Panther Cubs to see how even small acts of giving can make a real difference.

Thank you for your continued support in helping our students learn, grow, and ROAR with respect, responsibility, and kindness each day.

We are so proud of the caring, curious, and confident learners our Cubs are becoming. Week 13 brought us so many joyful moments, and Week 14 will bring even more growth and excitement.

✋🫧 Take Chances, Make Mistakes, and Get Messy!

We have been very busy incorporating early literacy in our classroom. Students have been creating their own office space with their name folders, mini sticky notes, writing supplies and envelopes. Students love having their own office to work and write letters to others.

Math Fun at Luce Road with Kindergarten! Math Fun at Luce Road with Kindergarten!

Students created a classroom quilt this week to explore shapes and patterns. They arranged patchwork and image blocks to form an AB repeating pattern. The unique results in each classroom’s quilt highlight how quilting can reflect the many shapes and patterns found throughout our world.

November is Homeless Awareness Month. We are partnering with United Way to participate in Coins for a Cause—a fun, school-wide coin wars challenge that raises both funds and awareness for our local homeless shelters:

  • Gratiot County Hope House

  • Isabella County Restoration House (ICRH)

  • Have Mercy (serving Montcalm & Ionia Counties)

Here is how it works:

  • Classrooms collect coins to support local homeless shelters.

  • United Way matches funds raised (up to $5,000 per shelter).

  • Winning classrooms earn a pizza party!

Last year, classrooms raised more than $11,300 in coins, and over $22,600 total went to local shelters with United Way’s match.

Important Notes to Parents Important Notes to Parents

THE WEATHER IS CHANGING THE WEATHER IS CHANGING

Dressing for the Weather

🧥 Dress for the Weather

Please help your child come to school dressed for the changing fall weather. Our Panther Cubs go outside 3 to 4 times a day, and mornings can be chilly.

  • Check the weather each morning to help your child dress appropriately.

  • Send a jacket or hoodie and closed-toe shoes every day.

  • Students are expected to go outside each time, so being prepared helps them stay comfortable and focused.

  • Label all items with your child’s name so we can return lost items quickly.

Thank you for helping keep our Cubs comfy, safe, and ready to play all day long! 🐾

🧡 Calling All Parent Volunteers!

We love having our Luce Road families be part of the fun! If you’re interested in volunteering at the school—whether it’s helping in classrooms, assisting with events, or supporting special projects—your time and enthusiasm make a huge difference.

Please reach out to the office or your child’s teacher to learn how you can get involved. Thank you for helping make Luce Road such a warm and supportive community for our students!

Labeling Student Belongings

Parents and guardians, please label your Panther Cub’s belongings, including backpack, coat, lunch box, and water bottle. Our Lost and Found is filling up, and labeled items can be returned quickly. Thank you for your help!

Clothing

Please make sure you send a change of clothes in for your student. Sometimes accidents happen and it’s helpful for them to have a change of clothes.

Please make sure ALL of your student’s belongings are labeled with their name! If it gets lost, staff will know who to return it to!
