Leadership Letter Leadership Letter

Dear Legacy Families,

The school year is officially in full swing! It has been a good start to the year. There have been some adjustments and flexibility with space, new students, and new staff, but overall things have been going well. It will be great to finally navigate through our expansion this year. We have been waiting a long time for this project to kick off.

I want to take a moment to clear up some confusion about lunch. There have been many concerns about lunch being 15 minutes. That is not a decision that we would make, and certainly not without much discussion and notification with families beforehand. Here is the lunch schedule for this school year:

Kindergarten- 11:00-11:30

1st Grade- 11:15-11:45

2nd Grade- 11:30-12:00

Middle School- 11:50-12:20

3rd Grade- 12:15-12:45

4th Grade- 12:30-1:00

5th Grade- 12:20-1:00

The 15 minute interval comes between when most grade levels will be coming into the lunchroom. That helps us ensure all students get more time to eat after going through the line versus our old rotation. In that old rotation grades that have additional classrooms would take too long to get through the line. The way we are staggering entrances ensures every student gets through the lunch line with enough time to eat. Additionally, students may have the opportunity to go outside for a few minutes if they are done with their food. As with all things, this will become more efficient as the school year progresses.

September is going to be a great month! There will be a lot of athletic events, the Wildcat Dash, and our first Nerf Night! Thank you for choosing Legacy Academy and being a part of our community. Please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

Character. Community. Excellence.

Want to volunteer at the school? Make sure you meet Legacy's requirements:

1) Background check EVERY YEAR (fee is $6) and valid driver license (or other approved form of identification). It requires 48 hours to process.

2) Attend a 5 minute meeting to discuss volunteer/chaperone responsibilities. A quick overview will be held before each field trip/class party/event.

Please stop by the office, at your convenience, to complete your background check. A background check is required every school year. Please allow our office staff 48 hours to process. If you come in for your background the day of the event - you will not be able to volunteer.

Running ANNUAL background checks on volunteers helps ensure a safe and positive experience for volunteers, teachers, students and parents. Safety remains our top priority, we appreciate everyone’s cooperation and understanding.

Nerf Night

Our first Nerf Night is Saturday, Sept 12th from 5:30- 8pm. The cost is $15.00 per person. Nerf Night is for Legacy families only. Participants must be 7 and up (6-year-olds may play if a parent is in the gym with them). This is an excellent time for families to play together as parents are invited to play as well. Bring your own blasters to the event (we do not provide blasters) but please do not bring darts or discs. Students are not allowed to bring blasters during school hours. Protective eye wear and darts are provided. Parents will be required to sign a waiver prior to this event; no exceptions will be made. Come enjoy a fun night with your Legacy friends and family.

The sign up link for parents to volunteer or donate concession items is below. We will need help setting up, tearing down, and a few judges. Any parents that donate food or time may apply it to their volunteer hours.

Doors will open at 5:15pm. Players/parents will not be permitted in the building until 5:15pm unless you are helping set up. Parents must come inside and sign the 26-27 waiver. Students may not participate without a current waiver.

The darts and rival balls are provided. We do not allow hyper balls. If you are purchasing a new blaster, keep in mind that we will phase out the darts next school year. The darts don’t hold up. Only the rival balls will be allowed.

Hearing and Vision Screening Hearing and Vision Screening

hearing and vision
zoom_out_map

On September 23rd and 24th, Legacy will conduct its annual Hearing and Vision Screening. Colorado State Statute C.R.S 22-1-116 requires testing the hearing and vision of all children in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, and 7th grades. In addition, any new Legacy students, as well as SPED students, will be tested. Each school must record all vision and hearing screening results in the child’s record. We will notify parents if a deficiency is detected. Should your child not pass their initial screening, the screening will be repeated within one month to ensure that the child did not have an illness or other factor that affected their initial results.

After two attempts, children who do not pass their vision or hearing exam will receive a letter stating their results and a recommendation for further testing.

As parents or guardians, YOU DO have the option to opt-out of testing based on religious or personal objections. If you prefer your child not to be tested, please email me by Friday, September 18th at jenny.jobes@legacyk8.org stating that you do not want your child to receive testing. This notification must be submitted via email or a letter turned in to the office.

Teachers or parents with concerns may also request testing even if the child does not fall within the age requirements listed in the Colorado State Statute if there are concerns that there might be hearing or vision difficulties. This also must be submitted via email at jenny.jobes@legacyk8.org, or a letter turned into the office by September 18, 2026.

Please ensure that any glasses, contacts, or other needed supplies come to school with your child on Wednesday, September 23rd and Thursday, September 24th.

Additionally, thank you to the parents who signed up to help. Our volunteer positions are full for the screening.
