Dear Parents and Carers,

As I write this newsletter from Robinwood in Todmorden, having spent the last day with our Year 6 pupils, I am proud to see the development of the children during their residential trip. They have embraced the challenges and teamwork needed to be successful across all the different objectives, and most impressively to me, they have all embraced being brave. I started the week with an assembly all about being brave and the importance of challenging ourselves to improve. This core value is being embraced by staff and pupils throughout school in lessons and outside of the classroom to help maximise our pupils’ potential.

This Week This Week

🛌 🚣 🧗 Robinwood 🧗 🚣 🛌

Our Year 6 pupils have had a fantastic time during their residential at Robinwood, throwing themselves into a packed programme of activities and challenges. From climbing, caving and tackling activities high above the ground to working together to solve problems, there have been plenty of opportunities for pupils to step outside of their comfort zones.

What has impressed us most has been the way the children have supported and encouraged one another. Working together as a team, they have demonstrated resilience, independence and courage throughout the residential. For some children, simply being away from home has been a challenge in itself, and we are incredibly proud of how they have approached the whole experience and how they have represented school.

A huge thank you must also go to the members of staff who have accompanied the children and given their time to make this experience possible. Thank you to parents and carers too for your support in preparing them for this.

Our Learning this Week

There has been plenty of exciting learning taking place back at Larks Hill too, with pupils experiencing some particularly creative approaches across the curriculum this week

EYFS

In Early Years, pupils have been getting to know the story of Little Red Riding Hood in preparation for bringing the story to life through drama next week.

Year 1

Year 1 have been developing their descriptive language through a ‘Guess Who?’-style activity using photographs of members of staff, helping them prepare for their upcoming character writing.

Year 3

Year 3 took a particularly creative approach to their canon text, The Firework-Maker’s Daughter, using interpretive dance to retell parts of the story.

On Wednesday, we will be celebrating harvest festival in school by taking donations of any non perishable food and essential supplies for the Food Bank. Any tins, dried pasta/rice, nappies, wipes, sanitary products, shampoo, body wash etc would all be gratefully received. All donations should be brought to school on Wednesday morning.

🚫 🚗 Parking 🚗 🚫 🚫 🚗 Parking 🚗 🚫

We have received a number of reports at school regarding disruptive parking at the start and end of the school day. This is a polite reminder to adhere to the parking restrictions outside of the school gates and opposite the school gates. All regulations are in place to keep you and your children as safe as possible during what can be a busy time. It takes everyone to follow these rules to ensure we are keeping the entire community safe so I appreciate your support in this area.

Supporting Children with Additional Needs When Something Goes Wrong Online

Children with additional needs may sometimes find it more difficult to recognise when something has gone wrong online or to explain what has happened. They may also become overwhelmed by questions or worry about losing access to a device or activity that is important to them.

This short video provides parents and carers with practical advice on responding calmly, offering reassurance and helping children feel comfortable sharing their concerns.

Supporting children with additional needs online: Helping your child know when something is wrong

Your support with attendance has been fantastic again this week, with another 100% day recorded on Thursday. I look forward to a restful weekend after an active time at Robinwood, as I am sure all our Year 6 pupils are as well.

Yours sincerely,
Mr Beevers

Wraparound Care Wraparound Care

Due to a recent increase in demand for our Wraparound After School club, we have taken the decision to increase our capacity from 15 to 18 children per day. We hope this will help out those families that need childcare either on a regular or ad hoc basis.

If you haven’t used our Wraparound After School Club before, please drop in to the office to sign the agreement form.

The Club runs from 3.15pm-5.45pm Monday-Thursday and costs £12 per session (or £10 each for siblings).

Children can take part in games, activities, crafts and more! We also offer a selection of snacks and light bites for them to enjoy.

From next week we will also be launching our new Friday offer! Friday club will run as the rest of the week but at a discounted price of £8 for the full session, or £5 for a 4.30pm pick-up. This could be an opportunity for parents to get ready for the weekend, do some shopping or run any errands that need doing without the children there.

Places should be booked on MCAS by Friday of the preceding week, please give us a call if you need to book after this deadline and we will see what we can do.
