From the Principal’s Desk
Gunnison Middle School Families,
There’s nothing quite like fall in the Gunnison Country—the crisp mornings, golden leaves, and blue skies remind us what a beautiful place we live and learn in. The change in seasons has brought new energy to our school, and it’s been exciting to see our students thriving both inside and outside the classroom.
This afternoon, we’re looking forward to celebrating together at the Homecoming Parade! It’s always a special time to show our school spirit and connect as a community, and we hope to see many of you there cheering on our students.
Our fall sports teams are wrapping up their seasons, and we couldn’t be prouder of the hard work, teamwork, and growth our athletes have shown. Thank you to the coaches, families, and fans who supported them every step of the way. Go Mustangs!
Inside the building, academics are in full swing. Students are diving deep into their learning, developing routines, and building momentum as we head further into the school year. It’s been inspiring to watch them engage in class, challenge themselves, and support one another along the way.
As always, thank you for being such an important part of our school community. Your support helps make all of these opportunities possible, and together, we’re creating a fantastic year for our students.
If you need anything at all, please don't hesitate to reach out. You also schedule a meeting with me using the link below.

This week for lunch...
This week, we celebrated our own mini homecoming with dress up days and fun activities. It was wonderful to see how our students and staff are really coming together as a community and building strong relationships. At our school, school spirit isn’t just about cheering at games or wearing our school colors—it’s also about how we treat ourselves and one another every day. True spirit shows when we celebrate our community, lift each other up, and create a place where everyone feels they belong. Kindness is a big part of this. When we show respect, include others, and encourage our classmates, we make our school stronger and more connected. Small acts—like helping someone who dropped their books, offering a smile in the hallway, or speaking kindly in class—can spread quickly and make a big difference. I saw several examples of these acts throughout this week and this entire month - we have the best kids at GMS! Taking care of ourselves is important too. School spirit grows when each of us remembers to show kindness inward: getting enough rest, speaking positively to ourselves, and giving ourselves the same patience we offer to friends. When we care for both ourselves and others, we build a school community that shines with pride, respect, and unity. Go, Mustangs!

Dear Parents/Guardians,
Your child's participation in school maximizes their life opportunities! With daily attendance, students can succeed in their education, have access to support, and won't fall behind socially. They gain skills, knowledge, and learn values that will set them up for further learning and help them participate in their community!
We understand that illness, family commitments, and other unavoidable circumstances can interfere with your child’s attendance. However, we cannot stress enough the importance of consistent and punctual attendance. Classroom experiences are impossible to replicate and the work missed cannot be made up adequately.
Thank you for your support!
