THE NEW LIBRARY OPENS TO STUDENTS
Students’ excitement was palpable when they entered the new library Friday. The space immediately filled with happy squeals and surprised gasps as students took in the new tables, seating areas and shelving. During reopening ceremonies students participated in a ribbon cutting and listened to a mystery reader read aloud his or her favorite titles. We are thrilled that students and staff are pleased with the changes and able to use it starting Monday!
Gold Rush would like to welcome parents in to view the new library before or after school on Thursday, February 28th, or before school on Friday, March 1st. Please see the flier below. While we are waiting for a few final touches, 95% of the space is complete. This is a great opportunity to see the remodel in its entirety before the library is reorganized for the spring book fair the week of March 11th.
As you are aware, a portion of the remodel was funded through Digger Dash Dollars. We thank our school community for contributing to this meaningful project! We hope you are able to visit the library next week!
SOLVING REAL WORLD PROBLEMS IN MATH
Students in all grade levels are applying math practices as they solve real world problems. Students are learning how to take apart multi step word problems and use a variety of strategies to solve them accurately. Students are boxing keywords, underlining the specific question(s) and circling units or labels. Students are using multiple strategies to check their accuracy and sharing their reasoning with their peers. Students often use models, or drawings and equations, to help explain their thinking.
This process of modeling and reasoning in math is embedded in daily lessons across the grade levels. This daily work moves students to deeper levels of understanding and thinking. We are proud of students’ confidence in tackling real world word problems.
