Dear Skyline Families,

As we head into March, we’re beginning to see small signs of spring and a renewed sense of energy across Skyline Elementary. This time of year always brings meaningful growth — not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well. Our students continue to show perseverance, kindness, and responsibility as they live out our STORM expectations each day, and I’m proud of the way they support one another both in and out of the classroom.

This month, our staff remains focused on strong instruction, small-group supports, and using student data to ensure every child is growing. You may notice increased reading, math practice, and goal setting at home as we partner together to keep learning moving forward. Consistent attendance and daily routines make a big difference, so thank you for helping your child arrive ready to learn each day.

March also brings opportunities for connection and celebration — classroom projects, school events, and time together as a community. We’re grateful for the continued partnership of our families and PTO in making Skyline such a positive, welcoming place for kids.

Thank you for all you do to support our students and staff. We’re looking forward to a strong and successful spring ahead!

Warmly,
Erik Olson
Principal, Skyline Elementary

AMAZING! AMAZING!

Academic Growth and Achievement!

We are excited to share the results of our Fall to Winter MAP Growth assessments in both Math and Reading. Overall, Skyline students demonstrated strong growth and high levels of achievement across all grade levels.

In Math, every grade level met or exceeded expected growth from fall to winter. Students grew between 10–15 RIT points on average, outperforming national growth projections at every grade. In fact, between 66% and 91% of students met or exceeded their individual growth targets. Achievement remains strong, with grade-level averages ranking between the 90th–97th percentile nationally.

In Reading, Skyline students also exceeded projected growth at every grade level. Students showed solid gains from fall to winter, with the majority meeting their growth goals. Achievement percentiles remain high across the school, with most grade levels performing in the upper national percentiles compared to peers across the country.

What this means:

  • Skyline students are not only achieving at high levels — they are continuing to grow faster than expected.

  • Our instructional focus on clarity, targeted small-group support, and consistent progress monitoring is making a measurable difference.

  • Students are responding to strong teaching and putting in the effort needed to improve.

We are proud of our students’ hard work and grateful for the partnership we have with our families. Together, we are ensuring Skyline students continue to grow, achieve, and thrive.

LEADERSHIP DAY!! LEADERSHIP DAY!!

MARCH 27

We are excited to invite you to our upcoming Skyline Leadership Day, a special event where our students will showcase their learning and leadership through the lens of Leader in Me. One of the most important beliefs we hold is that every child has genius—unique strengths, talents, and gifts that deserve to be seen, valued, and celebrated.

Leadership Day provides students with the opportunity to share their personal leadership journeys and demonstrate how they are discovering and using their genius in meaningful ways. You will see students confidently leading tours, sharing their academic goals, explaining their data notebooks, and reflecting on how the 7 Habits help them grow as learners and leaders. Whether a student’s genius is in problem-solving, creativity, perseverance, kindness, or collaboration, this event allows their voice and strengths to shine.

Through this process, students learn to recognize their own potential, set meaningful goals, and take ownership of their growth. Just as importantly, they learn that leadership is not about a title—it is about using your strengths to make a positive difference.

Counseling Corner

Sportsmanship

One of the most exciting events in March is the NCAA college basketball tournament. It comes with non-stop basketball, plenty of upsets, and a great opportunity to teach about sportsmanship.

Activity Idea: Work together with your child to come up with ideas of what good sportsmanship is. Make a list of what it looks like and sounds like, including what to do when you win and when you lose. Then, grab some of your favorite games and practice! One of my favorite games to use when working on this skill is Chutes and Ladders. It’s an easy game for non-readers, and provides plenty of opportunities to practice dealing with disappointment! While playing the game, encourage your child to practice the strategies and skills that were on your good sportsmanship list!

Skyline Families,

March is shaping up to be an exciting and busy month at Skyline! As we head into spring, we are so grateful for the continued partnership between our families, staff, and PTO. Your involvement truly helps make Skyline such a special place for our students.

Science Night
Get ready for an evening of curiosity, creativity, and hands-on learning! Science Night is coming on March 10th and we can’t wait to see our students explore, experiment, and showcase their thinking. This is always a highlight of the year and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate student learning together as a community. This year there will be a short program on Dinosaurs!

Staff Coffee Cart
Our amazing Skyline staff pours so much into our students each day, and this month "Treat a Teacher" will be on March 10th. Let's see if we can show our appreciation to 100% of the staff. If you’d like to contribute or help support this small gesture of gratitude, we’d love your involvement. It’s one small way we can say “thank you” for all they do.

PTO Meeting – March 16
Join us for our next PTO meeting on March 16! This is a great opportunity to hear about upcoming events, share ideas, and get involved. Whether you’re a regular attendee or joining for the first time, we welcome you. Your voice matters!

MOD Pizza Day – March 20
Mark your calendar for MOD Pizza Day on March 20! Enjoy a meal with your family while supporting Skyline at the same time. A portion of sales will come back to our school — it’s a win-win for everyone. More details will be shared soon about how to participate.

Thank you for your continued support of Skyline Elementary. We couldn’t do this work without you, and we’re looking forward to a fantastic month ahead!
