A Message from the Principal

Dear Kennett High School Families,

What a great start to the school year! The energy throughout KHS has been incredibly positive, and it has been wonderful to see our hallways and classrooms filled with students, smiles, and excitement. As I have visited classrooms and spent time throughout the building, I have already seen strong connections between our students and staff. I have also really enjoyed spending time in the cafeteria, talking with students and hearing about their first days back. Their enthusiasm, positive energy, and willingness to connect have given me an even greater appreciation for the strong sense of community at KHS. There is a genuine sense of pride and care throughout Kennett High School, and I am thrilled to be part of it.

As we begin the year together, I am grateful for the enthusiasm and positive energy that our students, families, faculty, and staff have brought to the start of the school year. Our focus remains on creating a welcoming school where students feel supported, challenged, and connected. I look forward to continuing to get to know our students and families, learning more about the traditions that make KHS special, and building on the great work already happening here. We have an exciting year ahead of us. Go Blue Demons!

Dr. Elisha Ozer
Principal, Kennett High School

Attendance Information Attendance Information

At Kennett High School, every minute of instruction matters. During the 2026–27 school year, attendance will continue to be calculated using cumulative missed instructional time, including unexcused late arrivals, early dismissals, and missed class periods. This time also counts toward the 10 parent-excused absences permitted each year.

Reporting Absences

  • Late arrival: Provide a parent/guardian or medical note upon arrival.
  • Early dismissal: Submit a parent/guardian note that morning for verification.
  • Full-day absence: Submit a note within three days.

Valid reasons for absence are listed on the KHS Attendance webpage.

Notifications

  • Families will be notified of unexcused absences through the contact information in Skyward.
  • After the equivalent of three unexcused days, the District will issue a Notice of Violation and offer a School Attendance Improvement Conference.
  • If a student misses first period, a notification will be sent by 9:40 a.m.
  • If a student misses one or more periods, an update will be sent after 4:00 p.m.

Families may monitor attendance through the Skyward Family Access Portal. Please contact a KHS principal with questions.

Late Policy

Punctuality fosters a sense of calmness and a value of time, which leads to increased well-being and academic success. Students who report to their first block class, or arrive at school after 7:40 am, will be considered late, unless the family communicates (with a hand written note upon arrival) an excused reason for the lateness. Students that are late (without a valid written excuse), will serve a restorative session; during which time, the coach or facilitator will hold a discussion as to how this behavior impacts learning, the community, and employable soft skills.

If your child is late, a communication will be sent to notify you of their behavior as a discipline referral. This practice typically commences in the 2nd week of the school year to give students and families time to acclimate; this procedure will commence on Tuesday, September 8, 2026.

We value your time. This NEW District and All-School Handbook brings together what you need to support your child during the school year. Whether your child (or children) is in kindergarten, elementary, middle, or high school, you will find helpful information in this all-inclusive document.

You can download the PDF files in English or Spanish and keep the handbook on your desktop or print for reference. Or you can review all of the content in the embedded version right here on the website, below.

Every family is asked to review the handbook as part of their Family Homework and confirm that they have done so for each child at the Skyward Family Access Portal.

Message about Students Vaping

The impact of vaping/smoking is not only on the person smoking but on others that inhale the second-hand smoke/carcinogens that fill the washroom and hallways. Please know our KHS staff is working collaboratively to ensure the safety of our students.

Listed below are some of our proactive measures that we take as a school to prevent vaping in our building:

  • In-house School Resource Officer who walks the hallways and bathrooms throughout the day.
  • Teachers enter all bathrooms during class exchange and during their prep periods.
  • Principals walk the hallways and enter the bathrooms throughout the day.
  • Discussions with students and informing the entire student body about the measures we are taking as a school and also the consequences.

Listed below are the consequences that will be given to students who use or are in possession of a

vapor device or paraphernalia that contains a controlled substance:

  • Up to 10-day suspension
  • Rights and Responsibilities hearing with the Assistant Superintendent
  • Criminal charges filed by the Kennett Square Police Department

Please know that we are prepared to support the students and families when these issues arise. We ask that you please speak with the children in your household and let them know the risks of using vapor devices and to please not bring them into our school. If you recognize the need for additional support, please contact your student’s school counselor.

A message from our School Resource Officer (SRO)

I’m excited to be back for my third year as your School Resource Officer! My name is Corporal Frank Toth, and I’ve been an officer for 14 years—8 of those with the Kennett Square Police Department. I’ve been fortunate to serve in several multi-cultural urban communities. My experience has taught me how important it is to connect with people, listen, and build trust.

My greatest passion in this role is mentoring and guiding students. I believe safety is more than just preventing harm; it’s about creating an environment where students feel supported, understood, and encouraged to reach their full potential.

Outside of work, I’ve been married to my wife, Stephanie, for 19 years. We have one son in high school and a recent high school graduate. This awards me the unique ability to understand the challenges and triumphs that come with high school life, both as a parent and as an SRO.

Over the years, I’ve received extensive training to aid as SRO including but not limited to:

  • NASRO (National Association of School Resource Officers) Certified

  • Chester County Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Certified

  • Mental Health First Aid Certified

  • QPR Suicide Prevention Certified

  • Crisis Response: De-Escalation Techniques

  • Advanced Law Enforcement Ethics / Conflict Management

  • As Well as Other Trainings on Ethics, Leadership, and School Safety

I’m looking forward to another amazing year working alongside your children, staff, and families. If you see me in the hallways, at events, or out in the community, please stop and say hello—I’d love to meet you.
