The Army provides a avenue for me to achieve my dreams and give back to my country.

DISD JCLC Summer Camp Command Sergeant Major
This year we had the opportunity to work with STEMWORKS JROTC Leadership Academy, the Career Institute North, Trinity Adventure Park, The Medal of Honor Museum, and Paul Quinn. College to provide a hybrid type of summer camp experience for our Cadets.
The purpose of this residential hybrid JROTC STEM Leadership camp is to provide our Cadets with fun and challenging outdoor events such as zip lining and other outdoor competitive events. This hybrid camp also allowed them to experience and learn about STEM content, skills, and fields of study sought out by businesses and industries today. The hybrid camp is designed to increase awareness of good-paying STEM career opportunities in the local area and what it takes to get the qualifications to secure these jobs.
The hybrid summer camp experience integrates five types of activities such as team building, communication, leadership challenge activities, industry visits, and Team STEM design challenges. This camp will ultimately help increase the number of JROTC cadets interested in and prepared for the STEM-dependent jobs that are in high demand in today's global society.

LTC La Daryl Franklin, US Army (Retired), serves as the Director of Army Instruction and the 2025 JROTC STEM Hybrid Camp Commander for Dallas ISD and U.S. Army Cadet Command. Under his leadership, the camp delivers an advanced STEM Robotics Curriculum in partnership with STEMWorks II and aligns with Department of Defense STEM Initiatives to foster innovation, problem-solving, and technical skill development among cadets. The camp experience is further enriched with physical leadership challenges, including high ropes confidence-building events at the Trinity Forest Adventure Park in Dallas, Texas. Cadets also gain historical perspective and inspiration through a special tour of the new National Medal of Honor Museum in Arlington, Texas.
