The Eagle Eye
Oak Hill United School Corporation - November 2025
Hardman's Happenings
Hello Oak Hill Families,
We have had a beautiful fall this year, with only a few chilly days so far, but we all know that Indiana weather can change quickly! As temperatures begin to drop, please make sure your elementary-aged child is dressed appropriately for the weather. Our elementary schools go outside for recess at various times during the day and generally remain outside unless the temperature falls below 22–25 degrees.
With winter weather also comes the possibility of delayed starts or school closures due to inclement weather or dangerous road conditions, as we experienced earlier this week. Please take a few moments to check your Skyward Family Access account to ensure your contact information is up to date so that you receive notifications when school is delayed or canceled.
If you have not logged into Skyward this school year, please do so soon, as the information in your account is used for all school notifications and correspondence. If you are having difficulty logging in, here is a helpful link to access the Skyward Family Access platform.
School notifications are sent via email, phone call, and text message. To confirm or update your contact information, log into Skyward Family Access, click on the Student tab on the lower left side of the screen, and select Student Profile. The information on that screen determines where your messages from the school will be sent. If any of those phone numbers or email addresses are no longer valid, please update them.
After our first weather delay this year, my office didn’t receive any reports of families missing messages, thank you for helping us by keeping your information current! However, if you did not receive alerts for the inclement weather on Monday, November 10th, please take a few minutes to verify that your contact information is accurate so that you don’t miss future notifications.
Many factors go into making weather-related decisions. Whenever possible, I try to make the call the night before, typically by 8 p.m., to give families time to adjust schedules. When weather develops overnight, I aim to make the call by 6 a.m., though that can vary depending on conditions. I work with other district staff and area superintendents to gather the most accurate information on road conditions before making a decision.
When a delay or cancellation is announced, families will receive an email, phone call, and text notification immediately, and the information will also be shared with local TV stations: WRTV 6, WISH 8, WTHR 13, FOX 59, 21Alive, and WANE 15.
We have families that live in all areas of our district as well as outside of our district so If the weather in your area feels unsafe, please err on the side of caution and delay your child’s trip to school until you feel comfortable with road conditions.
On days when school is closed due to weather, all Oak Hill schools will hold asynchronous eLearning. This means students will receive assignments through their usual online platforms (Google Classroom, SeeSaw, etc.) and may complete the work throughout the day. There will be no live online meetings, but teachers will be available by email during specific times to answer any questions.
Our transportation department has also been receiving many last-minute requests for students to ride different buses or go home with friends. For the safety of all students and drivers, students may only ride their assigned bus and cannot have friends ride home with them. Please avoid making last-minute changes to transportation plans, as nearly all bus mix-ups occur when changes are made late in the day. Here is also a reminder of our bus rider expectations, which help ensure safe and respectful transportation for all students.
Finally, please note that there will be no school from Wednesday, November 26th through Sunday, November 30th for Thanksgiving Break. School will resume on Monday, December 1st.
I hope you and your family have a safe, restful break and are able to spend time together reflecting on the many blessings in your lives.
Yours in Education,
Sheri Hardman

Swayzee News
Look for the Good
This week we kicked off our Look for the Good Campaign, a two-week celebration of gratitude leading up to Thanksgiving Break! Throughout the campaign, students and staff are encouraged to pause, reflect, and share what they’re thankful for—big or small. From gratitude notes and kind words to daily reflections, this initiative reminds us all to focus on the positive and “look for the good” in ourselves, others, and our school community. It’s a wonderful way to head into the holiday season with thankful hearts!
The Playground Is Finished!
The playground is finished, the playground is finished, THE PLAYGROUND IS FINISHED! (insert the angels singing voices here). After months of anticipation, construction delays, and countless “Is it ready yet?” questions from our students, the new playground is officially open! The laughter and excitement filling the air have made the wait completely worth it. We’re thrilled to see our students climbing, sliding, and playing together on this amazing new addition to Swayzee Elementary.
There’s just one tiny piece missing—the GaGa pit! It seems to have been forgotten in the delivery, but we’re confident it will arrive soon. In the meantime, our students are having an absolute blast enjoying every inch of the new playground.
A huge thank you to everyone who helped make this dream a reality for our students!
Dressing for Indiana Weather
As we move through this unpredictable Indiana weather, we want to remind families to help students come prepared for outdoor recess each day. Temperatures can shift quickly—from chilly mornings to mild afternoons—so layering is key! Please make sure your child has a warm coat, hat, and gloves available for those colder days. We try to go outside as often as possible, and being dressed appropriately helps students stay comfortable and enjoy their time outdoors. Thank you for helping us keep everyone warm, healthy, and ready for play!
Swayzee Students and Staff Member of the Month
We are proud to recognize our 10 Look for the Good Ambassadors as our students of the month! These students were nominated by their teachers for a wide range of reasons—some are quiet leaders who make a difference through their consistent kindness and reliability, while others radiate positivity and encourage their classmates with a smile or a thoughtful word each day.
Each ambassador was selected not only for what they do, but for who they are—students who make our school a better place simply by showing up and setting a positive example. They kicked off our Look for the Good Campaign by leading our schoolwide assembly, where they introduced this two-week initiative focused on gratitude, kindness, and reflection. Their leadership, confidence, and teamwork shone brightly as they encouraged all of us to “look for the good” in ourselves, in others, and in every day.
Over the next 10 days, our Ambassadors will continue to lead the charge by helping to share gratitude messages, promote acts of kindness, and keep the positive energy flowing throughout our building. We are incredibly proud of these students for representing the best of what Swayzee Elementary stands for—gratitude, leadership, and a heart for others!
Our Look for the Good ambassadors for the year are:
6th Grade
Lincoln Hughes
John Smelser
Erika Reno
Makalia Shields
Jayce Vinluan
5th Grade
Jace Ramey
Milli Simpson
Scarlett Marvin
Kaysen Vermalen
Paisley Stewart
Jennifer Woodard - Swayzee Staff Member of the Month
Ms. Woodard is an outstanding choice for Staff Member of the Month! She continually goes above and beyond, taking on numerous additional responsibilities with enthusiasm and grace. As the leader of our Student Ambassadors for the Look for the Good project, she has guided students in spreading positivity and gratitude throughout the building. Her upbeat attitude, constant smile, and genuine care for others bring an incredible energy to Swayzee Elementary. We’re so thankful for Ms. Woodard’s dedication, leadership, and the joy she brings to our school each day!
