Family Engagement Survey
We value your voice and want to partner with you to support student success. This survey is part of our Title I family engagement efforts and is designed to gather your feedback on how our schools connect with families, communicate about student learning, and provide opportunities for involvement.
Your input will help us strengthen programs, improve communication, and ensure that our family engagement activities meet the needs of our families. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts. Would you please complete this survey by October 31?
Thank you!
Important Change to 2nd Grade Concert Date
Dear 2nd Grade Families,
We are writing to inform you of an important change to the date of the 2nd Grade Concert.
The concert has been moved from Friday, November 7th to Friday, December 12th. The time and location of the concert will remain the same: 2 PM in the PC Gym.
This decision was made by Mrs. Vajda to ensure the best experience for our students. The original November schedule felt too rushed, limiting the time they had to truly enjoy and master the music. By moving the date, we're giving them the necessary practice time to feel confident and excited for their performance.
We apologize for any inconvenience this change may cause and appreciate your flexibility. We look forward to seeing you at the 2nd Grade Concert on Friday, December 12th!
Halloween Dress-Up Guidelines - Wednesday, October 28
We will once again be offering a school-wide dress-up opportunity for our K-2 students on Wednesday, October 29. The ELC/PC Dress-Up Requirements MUST be followed when sending your child to school wearing their costume/dress-up attire. Thank you for reviewing the following information carefully when planning your child's school dress-up/costume plan for Oct 29.
COSTUME/DRESS-UP REQUIREMENTS
- Students should arrive to school dressed in their costume/dress-up clothing for the day. Please make sure your child brings weather/temperature-appropriate outerwear, as students will be going out for recess. Students must also wear shoes that they can safely play and participate in if they have physical education class.
- Costumes/Dress-ups need to be school appropriate. No clothing involving violence, gore, or horror. If your child’s teacher feels a part of your child’s outfit is not appropriate, they will keep that item until the end of the school day.
- Weapons, props, and capes should be left at home. We want to ensure the safety and comfort of all of our students. Capes are a tripping hazard, and weapons/props can cause bodily injury and create worry/discomfort. Any of these items brought to school will be brought to the office. Parents will be contacted to pick them up at their convenience.
- Students need to avoid having their faces completely covered with face paint and/or masks. Staff need to be able to easily identify students and some students are anxious or fearful of people wearing masks. If students do have some minimal makeup as a part of their costume, this should be applied at home, not at school.
- For the safety of those with allergies, costumes and accessories may not contain latex.
- If your child's costume is a one-piece and they have a difficult time getting out of it independently for bathrooming, please keep this in mind when determining what they will wear to school on the dress-up day.
If your child’s costume is unable to meet the above requirements, do not fret! Your child could dress up wearing any of the following: sportswear, pajamas/comfy clothes, Mt. Horeb Viking gear or superhero clothing. We want all students to be included in this fun day. Many adults will be opting to wear one of these options, so students who come in this attire will not be alone!
If you need support/assistance securing a costume for your child, please contact our school social worker, Sophie Langkamp by phone (608-437-7567) or email langkampsophia@mounthorebschools.org.
Sextortion Presentation for MHASD Families by Dane Co Sherriff Office -Oct 23
Join Detective Timothy Blanke from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday, October 23, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Mount Horeb High School for his presentation: “Sextortion: The Untellable Secret.”
Why is this important?
In 2024, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children reported receiving nearly 100 reports per day of financial sextortion. That is a new report every fifteen minutes!
In the first half of 2025 vs. the first half of 2024: Online enticement reports jumped from 292,952 to 518,720. An increase of nearly 77%. Financial sextortion jumped from 13,842 to 23,593.
In the first half of 2025 vs the first half of 2024.
The suicide number for boys alone is now at 36. I don’t have any new statistics for girls.
Detective Blanke is on the front lines of this crisis, where online predators target and exploit youth through manipulation and fear. The consequences can be devastating—and far too often, young people suffer in silence.
This session is open to families, staff, educators, and community members. During the presentation, you’ll learn:
What sextortion is and how it happens
Common warning signs and red flags
How to talk with children and teens about online safety
How we can respond with compassion, not judgment
This is a powerful opportunity to hear directly from a law enforcement professional who understands the reality of what today’s youth are facing online. Let’s come together as a community to protect, support, and empower our children by staying informed and keeping the conversation going.
We hope to see you there.
