Late Arrival and Early Pick-up
Please note that when students arrive late to school it disrupts their learning experience and also interrupts the teacher and class. Please be sure that your child arrives at school no later than 8am. If your child is late, a parent or guardian must sign them in.
Similarly, leaving school early will also disrupt their learning experience. If there is a rare exception where you need to pick your child up before dismissal time, please send in a note or ParentSquare message to notify the teacher AND main office so that homework can be provided ahead of time. Students who need to leave school before the end of the regular school day must be called for by the main office. A parent or guardian must report to the office and sign the student out. Only authorized people listed as a student's parent/guardian or emergency contact may sign the child out. Anyone signing out a student will be required to show ID and must be at least 18 years of age.
Note that your child must be present for a minimum of 4 hours (not including lunch and recess) for them to receive credit for a full day of school.
ELA Screening Data
Last year, the State of NJ passed legislation that requires all school districts to screen students in grades Kindergarten through Grade 3 to determine a student’s reading proficiency. This data has been collected and is in the process of being formatted so that it can be posted in the Genesis Parent Portal.
This screening is a crucial part of our literacy program and is designed to help identify students who may benefit from targeted literacy support early in their education. Early literacy universal screening involves assessing students’ reading skills through standardized, individually-administered assessments. These assessments help us gather valuable information about each child's reading development and guide us in providing appropriate support. It's important to note that this screening is not a diagnosis or indication of a disability; rather, it is a tool we use to promote each child's success as a reader.
Basic Skills Support
Earlier this month, our basic skills teachers began working with our students in need of extra academic support. Over the course of the school year, the BSI teachers and homeroom teachers will be meeting to review classroom data and create small groups of students to target specific areas of need.
Halloween
Yes, we are planning for Halloween already!!
Please be aware that on Friday, Oct 30th we will hold our annual Halloween parade. Please come out and cheer on our students as we make our way up Main Street and through town.
As parents and guardians begin to plan for their child’s Halloween costume, I would like to remind you of the following:
Toy weapons or inappropriate props are not permitted to accompany any costume.
Any costume that depicts violence (blood/gore) or inappropriately represents/satirizes a person or group of people is not permitted
Any student wearing a mask MUST be able to see clearly and walk unassisted.
Lastly, please be aware that Friday, October 30th will be an early dismissal day (12pm)
Pumpkins Pumpkins Pumpkins!!
I would like to thank Mrs. Ervin for again arranging a massive donation of pumpkins for the Elementary and Primary Schools. Due to Mrs. Ervin's hard work and the generosity of our wonderful community, EVERY child at the Elementary and Primary Schools will receive a pumpkin to decorate during the Halloween season!
Thank you as well to the following local businesses for sponsoring this donation and helping to make this a special time for our students!!!

6th Grade Program
Earlier this week, the Ocean County Health Department began to visit with our sixth graders to deliver their program, "We're Not Buying It 2.0." The program is a substance abuse prevention program meant to educate the students on the influence that media has on our view of alcohol and drug use and the contribution of social media to the rate of cyberbullying. Please click on the link below for a more detailed explanation of the program.
We’re Not Buyin’ It 2.0 program description
The sixth graders will take part in the program during their 2nd academic block. Each session runs approximately 45 minutes.
Parents were notified on Tuesday, September 22nd via Parent Square regarding the program and the opportunity to “opt out” of the program.
NJ4S Programs
We are very lucky to have been able to partner with the New Jersey Statewide Student Support Services (NJ4S) to bring a number of programs into the school building this school year. Throughout the school year, they will meet with our students to present on topics such as Conflict Resolution, Self Esteem, Goal Setting, Transitioning to Middle School (5th gr) and Decision Making. Students will meet with the presenters in their homerooms for these impactful programs.
Spirit Days and Class T-shirts
Please remember that every Friday will be a School Spirit day and students are encouraged to wear their Warrior gear! If your child is in need of Warrior gear, please check out the PTO Website!
Additionally, please be aware that our wonderful PTO is again sponsoring our class t-shirts this year. Once they arrive at the school, every Monday will be class t-shirt day!
Chain of Communication
It's crucial for parents to take the first step in initiating communication with school officials. This empowers them to address their child's concerns directly, starting with the educator in charge of the class, program, or activity. We encourage this open line of communication to prevent misinformation from spreading on social media or in the community. Each situation should be communicated at the initial level, with an appeal moving on to the next level of the communication chain. The most effective form of communication is via Parent Square or email.
Rest assured, we are here to support you in your communication with school officials. Please use the information below to reach out.
On matters involving the classroom, lunchroom, building, or discipline please adhere to the following chain of communication:
Teacher → school counselor OR case manager → Vice Principal → Principal
On Matters Involving Curriculum Inquiries:
Teacher → Assistant Principal → Principal →Director of Planning, Research, and Evaluation
On Matters Involving Special Education:
Teacher → Case Manager → Supervisor of Special Services → Principal → Director of Planning, Research, and Evaluation
On Matters Involving Transportation:
Assistant Supervisor of Transportation → Supervisor of Transportation → Principal → Business Administrator
