Sand Point Squirrel Spotlight
Week of Monday, March 2
Principal's Message
Hello Sand Point Families,
What a joyful stretch of learning and celebration we have had!
We had an amazing time designing and painting our new school mural through our partnership with Urban ArtWorks and guest artist Natalia Sotelo. Our Squirrels truly shined, bringing their creative vision to life with color, collaboration, and pride. The energy in the space was inspiring, and the finished mural is a beautiful reflection of our community.
It was also a heartwarming and energetic assembly as we heard from Ms. Millerβs 1st grade class and Ms. Lauraβs 4/5 class. We are so proud of you! Watching our students share their learning with confidence and joy is always a highlight.
Our 4th and 5th grade instrumental music students have been invited to perform at Eckstein Middle School this Tuesday at 7 p.m. Students who are performing, please reference your email from Oxford for final details, I believe you will need to arrive at 6:30 p.m. to prepare.
And just like that, we are in March. This year truly seems to be flying by, and we are grateful for every moment we get to learn and grow together.
Warmly,
Dr. Stephanie Zikopoulos
Principal, Sand Point Elementary
Message from Nurse Angie
ToothSavers, a preventative dental team, will be coming back to Sand Point on March 27. If your child was seen by them in September, they will automatically be seen again. If your child was not seen in September and you would like them to be seen, please register for ToothSavers. If you prefer, there are English and Spanish paper forms available in the office.
This is optional and your child will not be seen without your consent. You do not have to opt out.
Please fill out the form completely, including your insurance information. If you do not have dental insurance, you do NOT have to provide payment. This service is free to all students. Students cannot be seen if they have been to a dentist in the last 6 months.
If you are unsure if your child is already registered, please reach out to Nurse Angie at amsterwald@seattleschools.org or via talking points.

Social Emotional Learning @ Sand Point Elementary
This month is Womenβs History Month and the theme we will focus on is Rights and Responsibilities.
This week we will discuss the definitions of Rights and Responsibilities.
Rights are things that everyone should have or be able to do. They help keep us safe and happy. Examples are Right to be Safe, to Learn, and to Be Treated Fairly.
β
Responsibility means being able to take care of things and make good choices. It's about being accountable for your actions.
Zones of Regulation learning this week will help us learn to identify when, where and how our Zones change throughout the day.
Supports for our Immigrant Students and Families
Dear SPS Families and Staff,
The events of the past few weeks in Minneapolis and across the country weigh heavily on our hearts. Our immigrant students and families are valued and beloved members of our SPS community. We are committed to ensuring our schools are places of safety and belonging for every student.
We understand that in the current landscape, fears and concerns about immigration enforcement in our own Seattle community are heightened. We have put together some guidance for our schools and resources for our families.
Guidance to Schools
If a school leader is made aware of a rumor or report of immigration enforcement activity near one of our campuses, they will notify the districtβs Safety and Security office. The report will be assessed by Safety and Security, and next steps will be determined in partnership with the school leader.
If immigration enforcement agents attempt to access our school buildings, they will not be granted access unless Seattle Public Schools legal counsel is able to verify a judicial warrant. More information can be found in Superintendent Procedure 4310SP.B β Limiting Immigration Enforcement at Schools.
Resources for Families
Families and community members can find resources and supports on our website. These include links to know your rights materials, the Cityβs rapid response program, legal resources, and family preparedness planning.
Emergency resources can also be found by calling 844-724-3737 to report immigration enforcement activity or get connected to emergency resources.
We are grateful for our communityβs partnership in upholding our studentsβ sense of security and their right to an equitable education. We ask that any reports of immigration enforcement presence near our schools be provided via Safe Schools Hotline at 206-252-0510. The Safety and Security Department is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Community members can make reports of safety issues impacting schools to District staff. In an emergency, reports should be made directly to 911.
In partnership,
Fred Podesta
