The Weekly Highlander
Volume #28
A Message from the Principal
Dear Highlander Families:
Next week is the much-anticipated Student vs. Staff basketball game on Wednesday, April 9th. The game starts at 6 pm, and each quarter will highlight a different grade level of students. Our lunchtime March Madness Basketball tournament winners will play the final quarter of the game of this very exciting game. Last year, the winning shot for the students was thrown at the buzzer so we anticipate a lot of fun! We will have students sing the National Anthem, and we even think Hank the Highlander will make a halftime appearance. Tickets are $3 and can be purchased at the door with cash only.
The PTA-sponsored International Week is next week April 7th. There are many lunchtime activities and the details for each day are listed in the graphic in this newsletter. The activity and food booths will be on Wednesday; encourage your students to participate all week in the fun.
If your student plays volleyball, the boy's scrimmage will be on Tuesday, April 8th, after school, and the girl's scrimmage will be on Thursday, April 10th, after school. All scrimmages will be held at Hewes and will begin at 3:45 pm.
CAASPP Testing begins on Monday, April 28th, and concludes on Tuesday, May 6th. Students will be testing in their Core and Math classes and 8th graders will be testing in their science classes. Testing blocks will be the first few hours of each day and we will be unable to interrupt testing sessions to release students from school. A detailed schedule is linked in this newsletter; please limit absences and appointments during this time to minimize disruption to the school environment.
Please stay connected to Hewes by checking our website and following us on Instagram @heweshighlanders for the latest information and news.
