The Tiger Times

Week of September 8, 2024
Hello Ragsdale Families,
This is Noel Keener, the proud principal of Ragsdale High with this week's updates.
We hope you enjoyed the shorter week. Now that we are getting into the swing of things, we are going to start scanning OneCards in the morning. Students should have their OneCards out and ready to scan. If students have not received their OneCard yet, they should see the Attendance Office. Lost OneCards can be replaced for $5. Please be sure you arrive at school with plenty of time to scan in, walk through the scanner, and get to class before the 9:15 tardy bell.
All cars parked on campus must have a valid parking pass by the morning of Wednesday, September 11. Reserved parking for seniors also begins this day. Towing will be enforced for cars without passes or cars parked in the incorrect zones. If you still need a parking pass, it can be purchased at the Attendance window. Cost is $50. You must also have a valid drivers license and present your registration.
Clubs and organizations are gearing up for the school year! See this week's Tiger Times for a list of all clubs. We have everything from chess club to Disc golf to coloring club! There is a space for everyone to be involved. Peer Tutoring starts this week. It is Tuesdays in the Media Center at 4:15. You must have a ride home.
This week we will have picture day on Tuesday, September 10th. Students will not need to pay on this day and will receive proofs in the few weeks with an option for ordering. Students remember- this is the picture on your OneCard and in the yearbook so make it a good one!
We have a few safety updates for you. School Safety has asked that classroom doors are closed and locked during instruction. We are asking teachers to close and lock their doors when the bell rings. Please encourage your student to arrive to class on time. All high schools in Guilford County are also having vape detectors installed in restrooms. The vape detectors are not equipped with cameras or microphones, but will detect small particles that are released when someone vapes, whether it’s tobacco or THC and alerts school administrators. They also detect high decibel noises. Ragsdale's installation will be complete this week. Remember that food deliveries are not allowed during the school day. Also, students must exit and enter through the front entrance of the building when checking in or out for safety purposes.
Families we need YOU to be a part of our PTSA and Athletic Booster Club. Come out Monday at 5:45 in the media center for our PTSA meeting where we will discuss ways to improve the school to home connections for our students. We will have an Athletic Booster Club Meeting at 7:30pm in the Media Center. This late time is due to the soccer match at 6pm Monday, so we will meet after.
Please look for us on Instagram @ragsdalehigh and Facebook @lucyragsdalehigh.
We look forward to seeing you Monday at 8:55!
Thank you , have a great week, and, as always, TIGER PRIDE!

Athletics
Fabian Diggs has been named the Ragsdale Athletics Athlete of the Week. His outstanding performance in last week's nail-biting 21-20 victory over Glenn High School earned him this well-deserved recognition.
Fabian showcased his exceptional skills on the field, carrying the ball 31 times for an impressive total of 143 yards. He played a pivotal role in the victory by scoring the decisive touchdown with just 6:43 left on the clock, solidifying his status as a key player for the Tigers.
Crucially, the offensive line also played a significant role in the win, opening up holes and providing the necessary protection that allowed Fabian to excel. Their teamwork and effort were instrumental in the team's success, highlighting the importance of collaboration on the field.
Under Fabian's leadership and determination, the varsity football team is off to a remarkable 2-0 start, a feat that hasn't been accomplished since 2012. His hard work, dedication, and athleticism are shining examples for his teammates and the entire Ragsdale community.
"For the second week in the row, Fabian Diggs carried the Ragsdale Football Team on offense to victory. He has amassed over half his total production (625 rushing yards) in two games. He is the focal point offensively and he continues to find a way to gain positive yards." said Antwon Stevenson, head coach of the Ragsdale varsity football team.
Fabian Diggs will continue to lead the Tigers as they strive for further success this season. Congratulations, Fabian, on this well-earned honor!
Ragsdale Athletics is thrilled to announce Elle Dawson as our Athlete of the Week for the week of August 19-24. A freshman on the women’s cross-country team, Elle has made a remarkable impact in her debut season.
Elle achieved a personal best time of 18:02, placing her as the #5 ranked freshman runner in the United States. Her outstanding performance not only showcases her talent but also highlights her dedication to the sport and her team.
Head coach Carly Cook praised Elle’s work ethic and team spirit, stating, “Elle is only a freshman, and she already has a strong future ahead of her. Not only is she an excellent runner, but she is hardworking and supportive of her teammates.”
Elle’s commitment to her training and her ability to motivate those around her exemplify the values of Ragsdale Athletics. We are excited to see what the future holds for this talented young athlete.
