Taking Stock: February 2026

February 2026
Stockwell Priorities
- To ensure our children are happy and we explain things well
- To ensure no child leaves our school unable to read
- To ensure children learn a broad vocabulary to access the world around them
- To enhance the educational experiences of diagnosed and undiagnosed children with SEND
Ms McIntosh's Update
Spring has officially sprung and with it comes more energy and an excitement about what lies ahead. We have a busy few weeks in store, so please check your diaries carefully for information about what is to come. I am looking forward to class assemblies, Science Week, Enterprise Week, the LKS2 performance and so much more.]
Please keep an eye on your email inboxes and the BJS Federation app (Weduc). We typically send information to parents and carers on a Tuesday and a Thursday. Flyers are also posted on the school gates and notice boards in the playground, as well as in the window by the office.
If you have not been receiving emails, or cannot access the app, please let the office know. Miss Boateng and Miss Gyamfi can help you.
We are looking forward to welcoming you onsite for our Spring Term Parent/ Teacher Consultations. These meetings are a valuable opportunity for you to speak to your child's teachers about their progress and attainment, find out how you support them at home and ask any questions you may have of their teachers. Please make sure that you book an appointment.
Booking will go live on Monday 9th March at 3pm. Please use the BJS Federation App (Weduc) to make a booking.
Please make sure that you have downloaded the app. Please speak to the office if you are having difficulty making a booking.
I am delighted to let you know that Ms Mansell has returned from her Maternity leave. Her beautiful baby boy just celebrated his first birthday and he very kindly agreed to start attending nursery so that she could come back to Stockwell.
Ms Mansell will be working 3 days per week, Wednesday-Friday. She will resume her Assistant Headteacher for Teaching and Learning role, and will lead KS1.
Mr Serra will be remaining in the Assistant Headteacher role two days per week, and will return to his position as Class Teacher with phase leader responsibility three days per week. He will continue to lead on EYFS.
I would like to thank them both for their hard work, and look forward to having Ms Mansell back on the team.
Our stance on the use of social media and smartphones for underage children is clear. Last year, we took the decision to ban smartphones for pupils across our Federation in order to safeguard children, reduce distractions, and promote positive wellbeing. We remain firmly committed to supporting families in navigating the challenges of growing up in a digital world.
The Government is now carrying out a national consultation on further measures to help prepare children for the future in an age of rapid technological change. This includes proposals such as potential age restrictions on social media and other online services (including gaming platforms and AI chatbots), limits on addictive design features and risky functionalities, and stronger support for parents and families.
The consultation closes at 11:59pm on 26 May 2026. We encourage parents and carers to engage with the consultation and share their views to help shape future policy around children’s online safety and digital wellbeing.
Your voice matters in ensuring the right protections are in place for our children.
Sunday 8th March is International Women’s Day.
We are asking for females from our community to come in and speak to the children about what they do during the between Monday 9th March and Friday 13th March. This could be jobs, volunteer work, special interests or skills. We value all contributions and are keen for our children to hear from as many people as possible. If you can spare some time, whether this is 15 minutes, half an hour or longer, to speak to the children, we would love to hear from you.
Remember, we are looking for people from lots of different backgrounds and, if you know anyone who might inspire the children, invite them along and let us know. We would love to welcome Mums, Aunties, Grannies, Sisters and anyone else who you think has a story to tell about their journeys. Please volunteer so that we can flood the school with inspirational figures.
If you, or a friend or family member, can join us on, or around, International Women’s Day, please let us know what time you can pop in, how long you can spare and which year group(s) you are keen to see. We will then get in touch with you to finalise the arrangements.
To celebrate Number Day, we had a Federation Times Table Rockstars competition. The resultds were as follows:

- Children in Years 3 and 4 swim weekly. If the children are well enough to be in school, they are well enough to swim. We expect all children who are at school on those days to swim and will call for parents to bring in swimming kits if they are forgotten.
- I have seen a few whole cakes coming past me in the mornings. While I am happy for children to bring things in to share with their classes, we do not have the staffing capacity to cut these up and distribute them. Please bring individual items such as cupcakes or fruit for the children to share.
Sports Update
February has been a hugely positive month for Stockwell and Stockwell B, packed with goals, big performances and standout individual contributions.
Stockwell A: Attacking Firepower on Display
Stockwell showed resilience and quality throughout the month. A hard-fought 3–2 away victory at Clapham Manor set the tone, proving the team could edge tight contests. Although they were beaten 3–1 by league leaders Granton, the response was superb — a brilliant 4–1 away win at Walnut Tree Walk that showcased their attacking strength and determination.
The team’s ability to bounce back and score goals in key moments has been a defining feature of their February run.
Stockwell B: Dominant Displays
Stockwell B were equally impressive. A commanding 4–0 win away at St Stephen’s was followed by a strong 4–1 victory at Loughborough and a 5–1 triumph over Clapham Manor. While they suffered a 2–0 defeat to Hill Mead, one of the division’s strongest sides, their overall performances showed real growth, confidence and attacking intent.
Shining Stars: Alexander, Luay, Raekeem and Rayyan
Three players stood out this month.
Alexander, Luay and Raekeem has been outstanding in attacking areas — driving forward with pace and purpose, creating chances and making decisive contributions in front of goal. His energy and confidence have lifted the team in big moments.
In goal, Rayyan has been a rock. As the last line of defence, he has produced crucial saves at key times, keeping the team in matches and giving defenders confidence to play their game. His positioning, bravery and calmness under pressure have been vital to both sides’ February success. Clean sheets and big stops in tight moments have made him one of the team’s most important players this month.
Looking Ahead
With strong results, impressive goal tallies and key players stepping up, February has been a month to remember for Stockwell and Stockwell B. If Alexander continues to shine in attack and Rayyan maintains his commanding presence between the posts, there is every reason to believe even bigger performances are still to come.

Forgiveness
Forgiveness for kids is making the choice to let go of angry feelings, hurt, or thoughts of revenge against someone who has hurt them or made a mistake. It means choosing to show kindness instead of staying mad, offering a "fresh start" to a friend or sibling
Ask yourself, how do you show forgiveness?

A Whole School Approach to Anti Bullying and Safety
With over 900 million monthly users, Snapchat continues to be a favourite among children and young people; however, with its ever-evolving features, the risks have evolved too. From AI-generated filters and chatbots, to disappearing messages and the Snap Map location-sharing tool, it’s easy for children to stumble into unsafe territory. This guide from the National College breaks down the latest updates, including the Lens+ subscription service, and web browser access.
they have also unpacked the risks of scams, overuse, and inappropriate content that may slip through the app’s moderation systems. With expert advice from online safety consultant Dr Claire Sutherland, this guide is a must-read for anyone helping young people navigate Snapchat responsibly and confidently.
Parent and Carer Support
Friends of Stockwell (FOS) PTA
We have an active PTA, called Friends of Stockwell, who do a brilliant job of fundraising for the school and bringing the community together. It is great to see new faces taking part. Every parent is a Friend of Stockwell. I ask that everyone gets involved. If you can spare an hour per term (that's three hours per year), your contribution would make a huge difference.
Please email friendsofstockwell@gmail.com to get involved.
We are often asked how parents and carers can support the school. We have worked with the school to create an Amazon Wish List to enable parents, carers, friends and family members to buy items that the school really needs.
If you are in a position to support the school in this way, please have a look through, and if you see something you would like to buy, just follow the same process as you would if you were ordering something for yourself. Items will be delivered directly to the school, marked for the attention of the relevant teacher.
Call to Action
Can you help out around the school? Are you a keen gardener? Do you have skills or knowledge that the children would benefit from? Visit our Call to Action page to let us know how you can help.
Attendance
Central to raising standards in all schools and ensuring all pupils can fulfil their potential is the need for children to attend school regularly to benefit from their education.
There is a strong link between good learning, high achievement, rapid progress and developing good social skills with excellent attendance.
We want to take this opportunity to outline our expectations for school attendance this academic year.
If your child arrives at school from 9am they will be marked as LATE, if they arrive after 9.30am, they will be classed as “late after the register is closed” and their attendance is classed as absent for the morning session. As the registers would have already been returned to the Department for Education.
Regular poor punctuality can also have a negative effect on your child’s attendance as well as their academic learning. Being 6 minutes late each day equals 30 minutes of missed learning every week.
If your child’s attendance drops below 90%, we will need to share our concerns with the Local Authority Education Welfare Officer at Lambeth Council.
Holidays in Term Time
Education Law states that it is not a parent’s right to take a child out of school during term time to go on holiday. Families must seek permission from the school and your school’s Headteacher is limited in what they can authorise. We can authorise leave if a child is in a performance and a performance license has been granted by the local authority. For any other authorised holiday, there must be extenuating circumstances therefore we cannot authorise a holiday because it is cheaper outside of term time.
Attendance Winners
Well done everyone. We have made a great start to 2026, with whole school attendance back at the National expectation.
January's attendance was 95%
A particular special mention goes to RB, whose attendance has jumped from 88% in December to 94% this month.
Keep up the good work everyone.
EYFS Attendance
RB - 92%
KS1 Attendance Winners
1R - 98%
LKS2 Attendance Winners
4T - 99%
UKS2 Attendance Winners
6A - 98%
School Uniform
School uniform should be worn throughout the school day. While we do not enforce that all school uniform should be branded, children should be wearing the correct colours (white t-shirt tops, navy trousers/ skirts/ pinafore dresses, sensible black shoes). Football boots/ coloured trainers are not school uniform and should not be worn.
Children should be changing into their PE kits for PE lessons (blue or black tracksuit bottoms, plain white t-shirt, trainers). We have made arrangements for girls and boys to be able to change separately, so the expectation is that all children change for PE.
While our supplier of school uniform is WearAbouts, we do have some items available for sale from the school office. Please check with us to see if we have what you need in stock.
Reporting a Concern
If you have a concern, please see your child's class teacher in the first instance.
If they are unable to resolve the problem, please speak to your child's phase leader.
If they are unable to help, please see one of the school's Assistant Headteachers.
If you are still dissatisfied, please see the Head of School.

Fostering in Lambeth
A new child comes into care every day in Lambeth. Many of these children will need the love and stability that a foster carer can provide.
What is fostering?
Being a foster parent means caring for someone else’s child as part of your family. Foster carers look after children who are unable to live with their parents, through no fault of their own. You'll be given lots of training and support, as well as allowances to cover living costs, the costs of food, travel and for the time you'll need to invest in supporting any child in your care.
Who can foster?
Lambeth Fostering welcome applications from everyone with a passion for caring. You just need to be over 21, have a spare room, good written and spoken English, and permanent UK residency.
Find out how you can be the difference: www.lambeth.gov.uk/be-the-difference
