Principal's Message
Assalamu Alaikum!
We hope you had a wonderful week! Please take a moment to review a few important reminders and updates below:
Parent/Teacher Conference Data & Survey
At NISL, one of our key School Improvement Goals is to increase parent engagement as part of our ongoing commitment to continuous school improvement.
Parent-Teacher Conferences play an important role in achieving this goal by fostering strong communication and collaboration between families and teachers. Alhamdulillah, our data shows steady progress! From 2018 to 2024, family attendance at conferences steadily increased and has now stabilized, showing our collective dedication to student success. Our next goal is to reach 80% this spring, in shaaAllah!
Thank you to everyone who attended and has already completed our Parent-Teacher Conference Feedback Survey. We truly appreciate your time and input!
If you haven’t had a chance yet, it’s not too late to share your thoughts. Your feedback helps us improve future conferences and strengthen communication between school and home.
Please take just a few minutes to complete the short survey below by Sunday, October 12. Every response makes a difference!
Parent/Teacher Conference - Feedback Survey
From Our Ci3T Plans: Behavior-Specific Praise
This month, through our Ci3T (Comprehensive, Integrated, Three-Tiered Model of Prevention) framework, we’re highlighting Behavior-Specific Praise, a proven strategy that strengthens positive behavior in both the classroom and at home.
What is Behavior-Specific Praise?
It’s a way of recognizing students by naming the exact behavior you appreciate. Instead of saying, “Good job,” try “Thank you for putting your shoes away right when you came inside,” or “I appreciate how kindly you spoke to your friend.” This kind of praise helps children clearly understand what actions are valued, making it more likely they’ll repeat them.
How to Use It at Home:
Notice when your child is doing something positive.
Be specific about what you’re praising.
Keep it consistent and genuine.
Reflect on how it affects your child’s mood and behavior.
This small shift can make a big difference, strengthening your child’s confidence and connection with you. Please see the attached infographic, letter, and video link for more details and practical examples of how to implement this strategy at home. We look forward to partnering with you to foster positive behaviors and a strong home-school connection.
