Hamburg School 2nd Annual Recognition of National Day of Unplugging (2026)
The following serve as initial guidelines:
- Middle School Student technology - students will use "testing" procedures where staff monitor students putting cell phones in their lockers
- Classroom Procedures - staff will refrain from using Promethean boards, Chromebooks, and any other forms of technology for the day
- Main Office / CST Office / Nurse / Business Office / Cafeteria - will not participate in the National Day of Unplugging due to the nature of their positions
Stations will be set up throughout the school (game station, STEAM activities, sticker wall art, crafts, etc). Classes may circulate throughout the stations during the day. Students may also engage in meditation/yoga activities with their class, or take a walk outside in the field, explore the wood chipped path or even walk to the tracks in the back field (weather permitting). Note that this day will coordinate with Read Across America week.
Culminating Activity - Students will be asked to reflect on the day in an age appropriate way. What was most appreciated? What was an unexpected benefit? What did students realize? Reflections will be shared with our community.
Thank You to Chris Kubik (Tri State Dog Stories)
The Sussex County Miners are proud to partner with our school and over sixty others to encourage strong reading and study habits. Students who read an average of 100 minutes per week for any three-week period in March or April (about 20 minutes per day, five days per week, outside of school) will earn two free tickets to a Miners game at Skylands Stadium. A special summer weeknight game will celebrate participating schools and reunite students, faculty, and staff. To participate, a parent or guardian must complete the form below.
See Mrs. Smalley or Mrs. Clark if interested in participating

Mayor and Council Meeting March 2 at 7:00 PM
Christopher Land is the teacher of the Engineering Program at Sussex County Technical School. He is sharing an exciting opportunity for your students, our new Girls Without Limits Program for elementary and middle school female students.
We are offering this program in response to the continued underrepresentation of women in STEM fields. Recent data shows that women make up about 28% of the STEM workforce and only 13% of engineers. Our goal is to help break down barriers, build confidence, and encourage young girls to explore their interests in science, technology, engineering, and math. This program is completely free and designed to provide hands-on, engaging experiences that inspire curiosity and creativity.
We hope that you will share this opportunity with your students. I have attached a program flyer below with additional details. The flyer is also currently published on our school website, www.sussextech.org. The program is currently limited to 25 participants so please encourage your students to sign up soon.
