i-Ready Inform Reading and Math Update

I am delighted to share that we have achieved a 100% completion rate in i-Ready Reading and 98% completion in Math. By the end of the day Friday, we expect to reach 100% completion in both Reading and Math!

Thank you to all of our teachers for your commitment to ensuring that all students were assessed. A very special thank you to Lisa Tackett, Jeanie Weiermiller, and Lisa Solik for coordinating and completing all makeup testing sessions.

In addition to teachers' data analysis, Brian Madej, Math Coach, and Lindsay King, Literacy Coach, will review and analyze the assessment data with each grade-level team during upcoming Curriculum Chats and instructional planning meetings. Linda Herrington, MTSS/RTI Support, will analyze the data to identify students who may qualify for additional services, such as EIP Reading and/or Math. Stephanie Blamires, CST, will also review the data as part of our Continuous Achievement analysis. In addition, our TAG teachers will examine the results to determine whether any students may need a second look for gifted services.

The purpose of these assessments is to identify our students' academic needs so that we can target instruction, provide appropriate support, and maximize growth and achievement for every learner.

PK-Grade 5: Field Trip Planning is Underway!

Teaching Museum Field Trip Experiences (scheduled by FCS and assigned to us):

  • PK: Tiny Tales on May 3 at 9am at SHE
  • PK (SN): Garden Tales on May 3 at 9am at SHE

  • 5th: Electricity and Magnetism SteamBUS on August 19 at 8am at SHE
  • 5th: Physical and Chemical Changes SteamBUS on March 29 at SHE

Teaching Museum Extra Experiences (FCS gave us the opportunity this week to request certain other trips that weren't yet full. I have submitted our name for these experiences, and will let you know if we are selected. The dates were very narrowly defined and don't necessarily match up with when the content is being taught, so this is a work-in-progress.)

  • KK: Shapes in Music at SHE
  • 1st: Ben Franklin at SHE
  • 3rd: The Word Collector at SHE
  • 4th: StarLab at SHE

SHE-sponsored Field Trips (The following trips are in the works. Our PTO will pay for coach buses for grades 3-5. FCS school buses will be utilized for grades K-2.) If a specific trip is not listed for your grade level yet, please come and see me or invite me to an upcoming team meeting to discuss options.

  • KK: Art Barn in April
  • 1st: Georgia Farm Life (looking at Fall dates)
  • 2nd:
  • 3rd: Tellus Museum on February 11
  • 4th: Franklin Gold Mine
  • 5th:
  • 5th Overnight: Rock Eagle October 22-23

My goal is to have all field trips scheduled and arranged by Monday, August 31st. This would be a big improvement for me over the past few years. Help me meet my goal!

Continuous Achievement

Our Academic Support Team (Lindsay, Brian, and Stephanie) will review iReady results for incoming students to see if it appears that they need changes to their Continuous Achievement placement.

For example: A new 5th grade was placed in an on-level class. Their iReady Reading was overall 6th grade, and you notice they are very competent in class. That student might need to be moved to an Advanced roster. This is usually pretty easy to do, because most classes include a combination of On and Advanced-level learners. Movement to an Accelerated roster typically involves a more dramatic schedule change and will require much further discussion to make sure we have enough data to make an informed decision.

Our next meeting is Monday, September 14th at 2:45. We will end by 3:30pm.

Dates for the rest of the semester:

  • November 16

SSS Week of August 24

Hi everyone! I hope all introduction lessons went well. The SSS pre-inventory is to be delivered the week of August 24th. This is for 3rd-5th grades. Remember, this year the inventory is through the ReThink Ed platform.

I'm attaching the slides you'll put on your board that tell students how to access, as well as your script. The inventory is assigned at the district level, so all students should already have access. Please let me know right away if you have any issues, as we are required to complete the inventory within a specific timeframe.

*Please note, I've heard there are more questions this year. It could take longer to complete. If you need to break if up across two days, that's fine. Keep me posted so I can share with other teams as we discover how it works!

Pre-Inventory Resources:

  1. Pre-Inventory Slide Deck – to be used by teachers
    • Pre-Inventory Instructions Script (also embedded in the slide deck above)

For quick reference:

scope and sequence.

As always, let me know if you need anything else from me!
