SHS/PGS Principal's Newsletter
February 2026 Edition
Principal's Message:
Dear Sequoia & Port Gardner Families,
To guide the Everett Public Schools’ continuous improvement process, each year schools survey students, families, and staff. This information helps us to understand our specific strengths and challenges that impact school quality. The School Stakeholder Annual Survey is only one of many pieces of data analyzed by school leaders and staff. In addition to survey data, student achievement, attendance, discipline, and program data is evaluated to create School Improvement Plan goals.
Families will be sent a link to our anonymous, multiple-choice family survey via ParentSquare on March 16th. The link will also be placed on each school's website homepage at that time. No log-in will be required and a generic link to the Panorama Ed platform will keep the survey confidential.
Please complete and submit the survey by April 3rd. If you have more than one student in Everett Public Schools, please complete a survey for each school your student attends so that they can benefit from your feedback.
Thank you for making your voice heard as we endeavor to keep innovating and improving our schools.
With gratitude,
Jack L. Roy
Principal

Kinder Writing Workshop Coming – Monday, March 9th
An Invitation from Mrs. Hinds and Mrs. Johnson...
We’re excited to invite Kindergarten parents to our Writing Workshop on Monday, March 9, from 9:20–10:30 a.m. This special event gives you the opportunity to observe your child as a writer in Mrs. Johnson’s Off and Running class.
We’ll begin in Room H102 with Mrs. Hinds to collaborate on writing development in Kindergarten and First Grade, discuss strategies for supporting reluctant writers and answer common questions about early writing.
Once Mrs. Johnson’s class has settled into their routine, we’ll join them in Room H104 to observe their writing time in action. Afterward, we’ll return to H102 for debrief and discussion.
We hope you’ll join us for this engaging workshop. Our goal is to support you in encouraging your young author’s confidence and growing their writing skills.
Core Value Champion for Passion
Congratulations to Magdalen Debroeck!
Each month an Everett Public Schools student can be nominated by their teacher who demonstrates the Core Value of the Month. The nominations are sent to Administration where students are selected to be recognized as a Core Value Champion.
Mrs. Bailey nominated Magdalen for exemplifying the Core Value of the Month, Passion. Here's what she wrote about Magdalen:
"Magdalen demonstrates passion in learning every day at Port Gardner. She is committed to learning and really shines in her ELA and Science classes where she can use her well-developed creativity and art skills. Her daily science journals and detailed diagrams and drawings set the standard. Magdalen is very conscientious about her learning and sets the bar and shares her passion for learning in all she does. She is also kind, caring and creative, which are qualities that also are exemplified in her passion through learning and life. She is a leader in her after-school sports and activities as well, especially in volleyball where her passion for playing is BIG! As an educator for over 25 years, it is my honor to nominate Magdalen, I have no doubt she will share her passion for learning throughout her life."
Congratulations Magdalen!

Walk FITT, HS Online Options Health Class Log Pics taken by Students
Course Descriptions:
In Walk FITT 1, students will experience an increase in cardiorespiratory endurance, core strength, and stamina. These life-changing results will occur over a 12-week period of logging daily steps based on a personalized fitness plan which includes body weight movements to help facilitate a comprehensive approach to walking/step fitness along with a weekly increase in steps. Each student will be expected to track steps using their iPhone or Android step app of choice. Weekly log submissions along with Canvas module assignments are required.
In Walk FITT 2, students will develop a personalized fitness plan based on the number of steps they take a day, focused on their personal goals and log activity for 12 weeks. But before they do that, students will dive into the mechanics of muscles and flexibility. Additionally, students will work together with a group online to complete an ongoing project. This course will challenge students to improve their walk fitness. Tracking steps with a pedometer, weekly and consistent logging is required.
