Celebrations Celebrations

Colorado College: Aprender Mediante Amistad

On Friday, our CLDE students met with members of the Aprender Mediante Amistad (AMA), a student organization from Colorado College. AMA is passionate about supporting young learners in our community, especially those whose families may face language barriers when it comes to homework help. The energy in the room was inspiring as our students learned about tutoring opportunities and the extra academic support available to them. What a WIN for Mitchell.

Message From the Principal Message From the Principal

Dear Marauders Families,

As we move further into the school year, I would like to take a moment to reflect on the progress we’ve made and share some important updates from the past couple of weeks. The safety and security of our students and staff remain our top priority, especially in light of recent national events. Over the past few weeks, our entire school community has participated in Standard Response Protocol (SRP) drills, including Lockdown, Fire/Evacuation, Hold, Secure, and Shelter. These drills are essential in preparing us to respond effectively in any emergency. We encourage all parents and guardians to review these protocols with your students and have open conversations about the importance of safety preparedness. You can find more information about SRP on our school website or by contacting our Discipline Office.

We’re also excited to announce that our after-school tutoring program kicked off last week and is now available every Monday through Thursday. This is a valuable opportunity for students to receive academic support, intervention, and enrichment. Whether your student needs help catching up or wants to deepen their understanding, we encourage them to take full advantage of this resource.

Student schedules have now stabilized, and we’re beginning to see grades reflect the investment students are making in their learning. Now is the time to check in on academic progress. I urge all parents and guardians to stay informed about your student’s on-track for graduation status, Grade Point Average (GPA), and literacy and math proficiency. Regular communication with teachers and counselors is key to ensuring your student’s success. Please don’t hesitate to reach out. We’re here to partner with you on this journey.

Thank you for your continued support and engagement. Together, we are building a strong, safe, and successful school community.

Keep getting those WINS!

George Smith, Principal

We have many upcoming events in the Future Center. Last week, we held a Scholarship Workshop during lunch for those students interested in applying for Quest Bridge, Boettcher, Daniels, and the Gates Scholarship. We also held our first FAFSA Friday during lunch where students are obtaining their FSA ID, which is needed to complete their FAFSA for financial aid. Please note ALL events can be seen on SchooLinks, so it is important students are checking their SchooLinks account on a regular basis. Events will also be posted on the monitors outside the Future Center.

  • Thursday, September 11, Colorado Scholarships Workshop during lunch

  • Friday, September 12, FAFSA Fridays ,FSA ID creation, during lunch

Senior Meetings

Mrs. Montez has begun meeting with seniors regarding their postsecondary plans. Individual meetings will continue to take place in the coming weeks. We want to make sure everyone has a plan after high school and help students reach their goals.

PSAT/NMSQT Testing:

The PSAT/NMSQT will be given at Mitchell on Wednesday, October 29th to any interested 11th or 10th grade student. This is the National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test for 11th grade students. If an 11th grade student receives a qualifying score, this is potential money for college! The PSAT/NMSQT is also good practice for any 10th grade student who will be taking the test again as an 11th grader. There will be no cost for students to test. Please sign up in the Future Center by October 1, 2025. If you have questions, please see Mrs. Montez in the Future Center.

Attendance & Discipline Update Attendance & Discipline Update

At Mitchell High School, student safety and academic success are our top priorities. We are committed to maintaining a secure, welcoming environment where students can thrive.

📈 Attendance Goals

We’re aiming for 92%+ Average Daily Attendance (ADA). To support this, we’re offering:

  • Incentives for improved attendance
  • Personalized support for students at risk
  • Community outreach to reduce chronic absenteeism (missing 10%+ of the school year)

🚨 Hall Sweeps

Random hallway sweeps help ensure students are in class. Repeated truancy may result in In-School Detention (ISD) or Out-of-School Suspension (OSS).

📝 Attendance Reminders

  • Closed Campus: All 9th & 10th graders must remain on campus during the school day.
  • Open Lunch: Juniors & Seniors may leave campus with ID. Privilege may be revoked for tardiness.
  • Absences: Must be excused within 48 hours.
  • Extended Absences: Require pre-approval and a completed absence form.

📵 Cell Phone & Tech Policy

To maintain focus and privacy:

  • No personal tech use during class or in private areas.
  • Devices must be stored in Yondr pouches.

This collaborative event, led by our AFJROTC, Choir, and Band, honors the 2,900+ lives lost on September 11, 2001, and pays special tribute to Kathryn Yancey Laborie, a proud Mitchell graduate from the Class of 1975, who was serving as a flight attendant on United Flight 175 when it was hijacked and flown into the South Tower.

Please join us as we stand together in remembrance, reflection, and unity.
