Happy Summer SSS!

It's hard to believe that another school year has come to an end! I know a lot of us are itching to get to the beach and have those lazy and laid back summer mornings. It's important to remember that, while we're excited for the flexible summer schedule, not all of our kids are as excited.

Kids thrive off of structure and routine, which summer often lacks. I encourage you to think about creating a daily routine for you and your family. This routine does not need to be anything crazy, but sometimes waking up at the same time every morning and eating meals around the same time every day can make a world of difference! Before your child hops on the video games or runs out the door to play with friends, make sure they've eaten breakfast, gotten dressed, and brushed their teeth. Little things like this, that adults might not think twice about, go a long way for kids when building a sense of routine!

I hope you all have healthy, safe, and fun summer vacations! I cannot wait to hear about them when we return in the fall. Continue reading for all things SEL, summer edition!

How Can We Help Kids With Transitions? - Child Mind Institute

Many children struggle with transitions, which are common triggers for behaviors that range from annoying (whining, stalling) to upsetting ( tantrums and meltdowns). There are many ways parents and teachers can help kids have an easier time with transitions - and be able to behave better-but it may take a little experimentation to find out what clicks with each particular child.

Strategies for a Successful Summer Break - Child Mind Institute

While your average child may be thrilled by the end of the school year, anticipating lazy days and sleeping in, the prospect of summer break isn't quite that unalloyed pleasure for parents. And if you have a child with emotional or developmental issues who is challenging in the best of times, nothing calls on whatever extra powers you might possess more than the long break that lies ahead.
