Dear Collins Intermediate Families,

We can hardly believe we are already in the middle of September! Our students have been working so hard, and we continue to be so proud of the effort, growth, and positive attitudes we are seeing across campus. They are truly making us proud to be Cobras!

💙 Thank you to our Collins families who have already donated to our Friends of Collins fundraiser! Your generosity makes a difference and helps us provide additional opportunities and resources for our students and staff. We are so grateful for your support!

🥤 A special shout-out to our amazing PTO! They surprised our staff with Sonic drinks yesterday to celebrate 100% staff attendance! What a fun way to show our teachers and staff some love. We are so blessed to work alongside such a supportive and generous Collins community!

As always, please know that we are here for you and your child. If you ever need anything, don’t hesitate to reach out, we are always happy to help!

Take care,
Chelsea Harness

Early Check Out During Lunch/Recess Early Check Out During Lunch/Recess

To help us get your child to you as quickly as possible during early check-outs, please avoid picking up students during their scheduled lunch and recess times. Locating students and gathering their belongings while they are on the playground or in the cafeteria can cause significant delays at the front desk.

If you need to sign your child out early, please try to schedule your pickup before or after their grade level's lunch/recess block:

  • 5th Grade Lunch & Recess: 11:40 AM – 12:20 PM

  • 6th Grade Lunch & Recess: 12:30 PM – 1:10 PM

Thank you for your cooperation and assistance in keeping our school day running smoothly!

Fostering Independence & Self-Advocacy

Learning to take ownership of their learning is a big step at this age, and your support makes all the difference!

  • Encourage your child to reach out to their teacher directly when they have a question about an assignment or grade.

  • Help them draft a quick, polite email or practice what to say in person before or after class.

  • Ask open-ended questions like, "What's your plan for catching up on this lesson?" rather than solving the problem for them.

  • Celebrate their effort and problem-solving process, not just the final grade on the screen.

💡 Learning to speak up and seek help when needed builds confidence that lasts far beyond middle school. A quick encouragement from you at home gives them the push they need to advocate for themselves at school!

Counselor Coffee Talk

We are excited to host our first Counselor Coffee Talk at 8am on Tuesday, September 22nd.

Counselors will host at least one Coffee Talk every nine weeks. These are a series of casual morning meeting opportunities, coffee provided, designed to help address and share information about different topics relevant to our students.

The topic of our first Coffee Talk will be: "All Things Collins" and may be most helpful for our 5th grade parents. However, new and returning 6th grade parents are also welcome to attend!

If you are interested in attending, please click here to sign up!

INTEGRITY

Guidance lessons begin this week and will occur during student's library time. Our focus this month will be on our September character trait which is INTEGRITY: Doing what you are supposed to do - Thinking before you act - Being accountable for your actions - Being a good friend.

If you need assistance with school lunches, or supplies please visit the following link. https://www.myschoolapps.com/Home/PickDistrict Applications need completed each year, so if you received assistance last year and are still in need, please don't forget to reapply.

Collins Clubs Collins Clubs

🎉 Collins Club Applications

We’re excited to share that some club applications are still open at bit.ly/collinsclubs26! Please note that while several clubs are actively accepting new members, others have already reached maximum capacity, had an earlier due date, or are now full.

As a reminder, clubs are a wonderful way for students to get involved, meet new people, and build valuable life skills. We want club participation to be a primary opportunity for our students to practice independence, responsibility, and initiative.

Please support your child by encouraging them to be the one who:

  • Learns about open clubs through morning announcements and school updates.

  • Completes and submits their own application.

  • Communicates directly with club sponsors using their student email if they have questions.

  • Keeps track of meeting dates and important announcements.

We kindly ask that parents refrain from reaching out to club sponsors on their child’s behalf. Instead, we ask for your partnership in encouraging your child to ask questions, seek out information, and advocate for themselves independently. Practicing self-advocacy in a supportive environment is one of the most important benefits of joining a school club!

Students will continue to receive information about available clubs at school. We’re excited to see our Cobras get involved, practice leadership, and take ownership of their school experience! 🐍

We wrapped up our Badminton unit this week. There was a lot of growth to celebrate! We love watching them compete and cheer each other on. We are looking forward to beginning our Volleyball unit next week. We will begin with skills and lead up to games. As always, you are always welcome to bring a water bottle to PE. Please leave all key chains, purses, and lanyards in your classroom or backpack. Thank you and stay active, Cobras!

🚗 Car Line Etiquette: Help Us Keep Dismissal Moving!

We appreciate your patience and partnership as we work to make dismissal safe, smooth, and efficient for everyone! Please keep these car line expectations in mind:

  • Have your car rider sign visible on your dashboard. This helps our staff quickly and safely identify your student. If you do not have your sign, you will be asked to pull through to the 5th Grade Bike Rack to verify your information. Please expect a delay. This delays your own child coming out and can also create a backup in the car line.
  • Please do not cut in front of other cars. Cutting into the line disrupts the established order and makes it more difficult for our staff to safely manage dismissal.
  • There are NO left turns into Collins from Shadowbend during dismissal. Please follow the designated traffic pattern and enter the car line at the end.

We know dismissal can be busy, and we truly appreciate your continued patience, cooperation, and respect for our staff and student safety. Following these simple expectations helps us get every Cobra home safely and as quickly as possible!

RAINY DAY DISMISSAL

Dismissal in Bad Weather

In the event of inclement or severe weather, be sure to check your email for updates on whether or not we will have rainy day dismissal.

If there is extreme weather (wind, hail, lightning, extreme rain) predicted to occur at 4:05 PM we will not allow students to walk or bike ride home - parents can join the car line, or walk up to the door by the 5th grade bike rack and check your child out with a staff member (please have car rider sign).

Every parent should have a car rider sign, and it should be visible in the car rider line. If you are picking up additional students due to rainy day dismissal, please write each student’s ID number as large as possible on a piece of paper. Families without the car rider signs and without the student ID slows the process down substantially.

We will do our best to make a "Rainy Day Dismissal" decision by 3:45PM to alert families of the change. Please have a "Plan B" established with your child so they will know how they are getting home when a "Rainy Day Dismissal" is called.
