MONTERA MUSIC: Band and Choir / Orchestra Concerts - IMPORTANT INFO
Band Concert: Wednesday, December 11th at 6pm (Montera MUR)
Choir/Orchestra Concert: Thursday, December 12th at 6pm (Montera MUR)
We are so excited for our music students to show you all the work they have been doing in class. This Wednesday and Thursday, we have two nights of concerts with the students required to come only on the night for their class. Band students will perform Wednesday, December 11th at 6pm in the MUR. Choir and String/Orchestra students will perform Thursday, December 12th at 6pm in the MUR. At both concerts, we are in desperate need of a few adult volunteers, including a critical piece to pick up pizza for the students to have dinner prior to the concert. Please visit the SignUpGenius to help out!
Students should arrive at 5:30pm dressed in all black clothing and mostly black shoes. No shorts, hoodies, or pants with rips or holes are allowed. If your child needs to stay after school, please have them bring their clothes the morning of the concert and they can drop them off in their teacher’s classroom.
Pizza will be served at 5:30pm for student musicians. If your child has a dietary restriction (gluten, vegan, vegetarian, etc.), please let Ms. Sho know so we can make sure to have enough food. Students are expected to stay the entire time of the concert which is usually no more than an hour (ending at 7pm or before).
The Winter and Spring Concerts are required and a part of the student’s grade. Any conflicts need to be communicated ahead of time so that we can plan accordingly. All Montera coaches are expected to release students in time to prepare for the concert as music is an academic class. Students with a valid reason for missing will be assigned an alternate assignment by request of parent/guardian only. Please reach out to Ms. Sho at holly.shogbesan@ousd.org with any questions (Mr. Bob with the band classes still doesn’t have an OUSD email address).
Our concerts cannot happen without the support of our families. I know you already do so much. If you are able to volunteer the night of the concert or donate towards food and drinks for our student musicians please follow this link and sign up. Thank you!
Montclair Holiday Stroll (Advanced Band)
Thursday, December 12th from 4-4:30pm
Montclair Village
Please enjoy the Montclair Holiday Stroll this Thursday from 4-8pm with your Montera Advanced Band playing from 4-4:30pm!
Details for the band members:
Performance will be near the Medau Place and Mountain Blvd intersection
Dress is not strict; festive/warm would be nice; pants not shorts; no clothes with rips or tears
Members can either ride the bus after the school to Montclair Village or have a parent pick up from school and drive them directly to the village.
We need one parent with a big vehicle (minivan-sized) to help with transportation of the drum set, big instruments, and music stands to and from Montera to the Montclair Village. They would meet at Montera in the front parking lot at around 3pm to load up all the equipment from the band room and return the equipment after the performance.
