Thoughts from Dr. Cohen
One week until CMAS! Please keep the following in mind for next week.
CMAS Testing Schedule (Tuesdays, Wednesdays, & Thursdays):
April 7th - 9th: English Language Arts (ELA) - Grades 3rd - 8th
April 13th - 16th: Mathematics - Grades 3rd - 8th
April 10th, 17th, and 20th for 5th and 8th grade science, 7th grade social studies (18th only)
Key Reminders:
Punctuality is Essential: Please ensure your student arrives at school on time each testing day. Late arrivals will not be permitted to enter the testing room once the assessment has begun. Note: Students who have opted out of testing will start school when testing is complete.
Daily Testing Schedule: Testing will generally conclude by 12:00 PM. However, please confirm the exact start and end times with your student's teacher, as they may vary by grade level and subject.
Electronic Devices Prohibited: Cell phones, smartwatches, and wireless earbuds are not allowed in the testing environment. Possession of these devices during testing will invalidate the student's test. We recommend students leave these devices at home. If they must bring them, please ensure they remain powered off and stored securely in their backpack or locker throughout the school day, adhering to our school’s device policy.
Appointment Considerations: Please be mindful of the CMAS testing window (April 8th - 24th) when scheduling appointments for your student.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping us create a focused and supportive testing environment. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to reach out to your student's teacher.
Thank you for your partnership in your child's success!
Updates from the Nurse
Important Health Update for Families
With an increase in measles cases being reported across the state, APS has updated its measles guidance to ensure we are prepared to keep our school community safe.
At this time, there have been no suspected or confirmed cases of measles within our school or school district. This information is being shared out of an abundance of caution so families know what to expect and how to stay informed.
Why this matters:
Measles is a highly contagious illness, but it is also very preventable through vaccination.
- One dose of the MMR vaccine is about 93% effective at preventing measles
- Two doses are about 97% effective at preventing measles
The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) requires students to be fully vaccinated against measles (MMR) unless a valid exemption is on file.
Important to know:
If a confirmed case of measles were to occur in our school, students who are not fully immunized must be excluded from school for at least 21 days or until proof of immunity is provided, per CDPHE guidelines.
How families can help:
- Make sure your child is up to date on their immunizations (remember that the second dose of MMR must be given at least 28 days after the first dose to be considered valid).
- Keep your child home if they are sick:
- Fever (above 100.4 F)
- Vomiting or diarrhea within 24 hours
- Severe cough or respiratory symptoms
- Or if they are not well enough to participate in school
- Students may return to school when they are fever-free and/or free from vomiting/diarrhea for 24 hours without medication
