Allowing Flash Player and Pop-Ups

The start of this school year we have seen several websites used the past not functioning for students due to issues with Flash Player and pop-ups. Now you can help students resolve those issues. Whenever you are on a website, you can click the i or lock in front of the web address in the URL bar.
This will open the site information for that website. By using the drop down arrows next to the item in the list, you can change the permissions for that specific feature on the website you are using. As long as the student is signed into the Chrome browser on a Mac computer or using a Chromebook, the new setting will remain when the student uses this website in the future.
Here are the most common features I have changed for students and staff this year:

  • Camera
  • Microphone
  • Flash
  • Popups

Just switch them from their current setting to 'Always allow on this site.' When you are finished click anywhere on your screen except the site information box. You should be prompted to reload the website you are on so these changes can be activated.

If making these changes does not resolve the issue you are experiencing with the website, then please contact the IT Department.

Printing & Copying Reminders Printing & Copying Reminders

Copier

  • Copier amounts are set by building administrators. At the start of the school year, they informed the Tech Department of the amount they wanted to be set for each teacher. At any time, you are welcome to discuss this amount with them and request an increase. The building administrator will notify the Tech Department if additional copy amounts need to be added to a specific individual.

  • The copiers are reset the last Friday of each month. So in August, for example, your count was reset the morning of August 25th.

  • If at any point you would like to know how many copies you have remaining for the month, simply email IT and include your ID number. We will be happy to email you that information.

Printers

Printing is set up for staff and students via Google Cloud Print. This means that you must be logged into Google Chrome with your school email. It also means all printing will have to come from the Chrome browser.

Papercut - Staff and students are allocated a specific amount of funds for printing. Funds are added each month to their account until they reach a predetermined cap, at which point, no additional funds will be added. Any funds not used at the end of the month will roll over. Staff can look at their fund status by installing the Papercut application via the Filewave icon on their computer.

Install Papercut Application

  1. Click on the Filewave icon in the status bar on your computer
  2. Click Install Software
  3. Locate Papercut Client Mac and click the Install button on the right

Once installed, this will allow you to see your printing funds status.

Turning off App Update Reminders Turning off App Update Reminders

You may be receiving those pesky app update reminders from time to time. They are the ones that pop on your screen and ask do you want to do this now or later. If you choose later, then you have to tell it when. So, by following the instructions below, you can turn off those pesky update reminders:

  1. Open System Preferences
  2. Click App Store in the third row
  3. Uncheck the box in front of Automatically check for updates

*If the lock icon in the bottom left corner is locked, you will need to click the lock. A dialogue box will open asking for User Name and Password. The username should already be filled in with your firstname.lastname. The password you need to enter is your computer password, then click unlock. This will allow you to uncheck the automatic update option.

If you ever need to check for updates, then open the App Store application on your computer. It will show you the available updates for your computer. You can select which updates you want to run and which ones you want to skip. Be sure to contact the IT Department if you have any additional questions about updates.
