Dear Coulston Comet Families,

We are so excited to kick off the 2025–26 school year next week! We've missed seeing our Comets and are busy preparing classrooms for a year full of learning and growth. As summer winds down, please review the important information below to help your family get ready for the new school year.

Registration: If you have not yet registered your child, please do so online at: www.scs.shelbycs.org/page/registration.

Returning students and Kindergarteners pre-registered in the spring can register online.

New families or those needing assistance must register in person at Coulston Elementary School between the hours of 7:00-3:30PM.

Transportation: Bus routes and stop information will be available starting August 4th at

scs.shelbycs.org/page/transportation. In order to have your child’s bus transportation ready for the first day of school, they MUST be enrolled by noon on August 1st. Scroll down to the InfoFinder link for details.

Meet the Teacher Night: Join us on Monday, August 4, 2025, from 5:30–6:30 PM to meet your child’s

teacher and tour the building. We encourage families to bring school supplies that evening.

First Day of School: The first day for all students is Wednesday, August 6, 2025. Please note:

Although it’s a Wednesday, this will NOT be an early release day. We will dismiss students at the normal time.

School Hours: M/T/Th/F: 7:25 AM–2:15 PM & Wednesdays (starting Aug. 13): 7:25 AM–1:45 PM.

Car Rider Drop-Off: Begins at 7:25 AM on the Northwest side of the building. The first few days may

run slower. Thank you for your patience as we ensure a safe start for all. Car rider pick-up begins at 2:15 and 1:45 on Wednesdays. A Car Rider Tag is needed for pick-up. Call the front office for more information.

Breakfast & Lunch: Breakfast is free for all students and lunch prices are $2.80. You can send your

money to school or pay online at My Bucks.

We encourage all families to complete the Free & Reduced Lunch application each year.

Meet the Teacher Night!!

It’s hard to believe, but Meet the Teacher Night is almost here! Join us on Monday, August 4th from 5:30–6:30 PM to meet your child’s teacher and drop off school supplies. Parking will be available in all school parking areas. The nurse will be available as well if any medication needs to be dropped off

While you're here, be sure to visit our PTO table to sign up and be part of our amazing team. We’ll also have several community partners joining us for the evening, so stop by their tables and say hello!. We can’t wait to see you there!

First Day of School

Reminder: The first day of school is Wednesday, August 4th! This will be a regular school day from 7:25 AM to 2:15 PM (not an early release day). The start-of-day bell rings at 7:25, and the tardy bell rings at 7:45. We’re so excited to welcome everyone back and look forward to a fantastic first day!

Car RIder Information

Reminder: Morning car rider begins at 7:25 AM on the Northwest side of the building. The first few days may run slower. Thank you for your patience as we ensure a safe start for all. Books for Bucks at Meet the Teacher Night

Our school focus this year is READING! Reading every day helps kids get better at understanding words, thinking clearly, and learning in all subjects. Just 20 minutes of reading a day can make a big difference!

To help with this, we will have tables set up for our Books for a Buck sale. We’ll be selling new and gently used books for just $1 each. So bring a few dollars and grab a few books to read at home! Comets, let’s make this a great year of reading!

A Few updates and Reminders

Parents, just a reminder that we have some changes this year.

Be on the lookout for new attendance laws.
We are asking that parents send plastic water bottles to school if possible. This helps with fewer distractions in the classroom.
NEW…only water is allowed in water bottles. NO additional drinks can be brought in per the Healthy Schools policy. Water bottles that come with other drinks will be emptied.
Snacks sent to school will need to follow the Healthy Schools policy that will be sent home.
Dress code reminders: ALL shoes need to have a back. Please look at the dress code in the handbook for other reminders. Thanks for your cooperation with this!
