Dear Parents/Carers,
As we move through the final weeks of the academic year, the school has once again been buzzing with activity. Our calendar is packed, with lots of exciting events taking place this week, and plenty more upcoming.
This Week
WMS Music Concert
On Tuesday morning, we held our Music Concert, which showcased the talent and dedication of pupils who have been taking peripatetic music lessons with Wakefield Music Services. Organised by Mr McIntyre and supported by the keyboard and strings teacher Miss Younger, the concert featured a wide range of instruments and musical styles. It was clear how much the children had prepared, and those attending thoroughly enjoyed the event.
Year 3 & 4 Viking Experience
Year 3 and 4 had an exciting Viking Workshop this week, where they took part in a drama performance, explored myths and legends, and learnt about Valhalla. It was a fun and immersive experience which brought the topic to life and tied together all their learning from this half-term.
Drama Club Performance
On Tuesday and Wednesday evening, our Drama Club – led by Mrs Smith, Miss Jones, Mrs Harris and Mrs Law – took to the stage with two fantastic performances. The show was a brilliant compilation of songs from well-loved musicals, with brilliant choreography, exciting costume changes and great music. The pupils were an absolute credit to the school, and the performances were enjoyed by a large and appreciative audience. Thank you to all the families who came along to support.
Sports Day
On Wednesday, we made every effort to run Sports Day. Unfortunately, poor weather caused delays and, ultimately, the cancellation of the event for health and safety reasons. The children were able to participate in a few early activities, and we are extremely grateful to the Featherstone Rovers coaches for their support. Despite our best efforts, the weather proved too unpredictable and the wet grass posed a safety risk. As explained in yesterday’s letter, due to the packed calendar for the rest of term, we are sadly unable to reschedule Sports Day. We sincerely apologise to all pupils and families for the disappointment.
Year 3 Visit to The King's School
Also on Wednesday, Year 3 visited The King’s School to watch a brilliant production of Grease performed by the secondary school pupils – including some familiar faces from Larks Hill! The children thoroughly enjoyed the performance and it was a lovely opportunity to see the next stage in their school journey.
Year 6 Transition
On Thursday, the majority of our Year 6 pupils attended their first transition days at Carleton High School or The King’s School with others attending transition events at their chosen schools throughout the week. We’ve received fantastic feedback and we’re so pleased they had such a positive first experience of their new schools.
