Focusing Our Commitment to Unlimited Success!
Nugget is Back!
Nugget is a -month-old lab comfort dog visited with the students of Endeavor today. Students have an opportunity to visit Nugget individually, with a friend, or during class today. A comfort dog like Nugget will visit Endeavor once a month this year. The program started last year thanks to a grant written by English teacher Mrs. Jennifer Thurik. Comfort dogs can help to calm anxiety and enable someone to regain peace, thus improving the quality of life.
Vaping Concerns and Alerts for Parents
Vaping is a serious epidemic that is affecting the youth across our nation. Some risks of vaping are:
The use of e-cigarettes is unsafe for kids, teens, and young adults.
Most e-cigarettes contain nicotine. Nicotine is highly addictive and can harm adolescent brain development, which continues into the early to mid-20s.
E-cigarettes can contain other harmful substances besides nicotine.
Young people who use e-cigarettes may be more likely to smoke cigarettes in the future.
The Texas legal age is 21 for the purchase, distribution, possession, purchase, consumption, or receipt of cigarettes, e-cigarettes, or tobacco products. This means that it is illegal for students to have any vaping contraband in their possession, especially on a school campus (40 Tex. Admin. Code § 744.2603(d)).
At Endeavor High School, we have made available drug addiction counseling and will have former drug addicts speak to the students about the dangers of drug addiction.
As many of you know, there are vape detectors in all the bathrooms at Endeavor. Although this has been somewhat successful in deterring some students from vaping, unfortunately, there is a small percentage of students who continue to do so. When the alarm is detected, I receive a notification that it is occurring. When this occurs, I question the students, search for them, and, sometimes, cannot discover a vaping device. It is possible that some students have hidden the device in their undergarments or passed it on to someone else.
I do not want to accuse anyone of vaping falsely. However, I like the parents of Endeavor to be aware of what I am being alerted to. Beginning this week, I will send a text to any student's parent if their child is in the bathroom when the vaping alarm alerts me. I will send these texts at the end of the day. Again, this concerns only a small percentage of our students when they are in the bathroom, the alarm is activated.
It is my hope that a conversation will begin at home with the dangers of vaping or any other kind of drug addiction. Below, I have included a past article that introduces our drug counselor Mr. Ramirez of Youthworks for your review. Mr. Ramirez introduced himself to the students of Endeavor today during the activity period with a short presentation of how he can help the students with any substance abuse concerns.
If you have any concerns about your child's well-being at Endeavor, please contact me. I want to hear from you. It is my hope that we work together to make your child's Endeavor experience a positive one.

ACT/SAT Testing Info
What is the ACT/SAT test?
Both the SAT and the ACT are nationally administered, standardized tests that help schools evaluate your application and see how prepared you are for college courses. The SAT and ACT generally cover the same topics. Both ACT and SAT scores are used for college admissions decisions and awarding merit-based scholarships. Most colleges do not prefer one test over the other. Neither the SAT nor ACT is harder than the other. Different students tend to do better on one test than the other.
