Finalizing the 2026/2027 School Year Budget

Last month the Ipswich School Committee voted to approve the 2026/2027 school budget of $41.4M. A continued focus has been long range planning and minimizing the need for future overrides. In April we identified additional savings, which will allow us to decrease our draw from the stabilization (“override”) fund. This will help us push out the need for a future override.

The next step is the Annual Town Meeting on May 12, where citizens will vote on the school budget. We encourage everyone to stay engaged and review the full budget materials, which are available on the district website.

Elementary School Building Project Update

~Special Update from the School Building Committee~

Ipswich continues its work in the Eligibility Phase of the elementary school building project in partnership with the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA). The School Building Committee remains focused on reviewing enrollment projections, site considerations, and the district’s educational program needs to help inform future options for a new elementary school.

The next major phase of the project is the Feasibility study. Ipswich is scheduled to meet with the MSBA on April 29 to formally enter the feasibility study phase, an important milestone in the school building process.

Timeline Snapshot:

  • Current Phase: MSBA Eligibility Phase

  • Next Steps: Selection of the Owner’s Project Manager (OPM) and Designer/Architect

  • Spring–Summer: Development and evaluation of potential project options, including school size and site considerations

  • Later in Feasibility: Identification of a preferred option and preliminary cost estimates

  • Future Phase: Detailed design and community consideration of the proposed project

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, May 14 at 6:00 PM in Meeting Room A. All School Building Committee meetings are open to the public, with agendas and materials posted in advance on the Town website.
