Scott Middle School's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve" Scott Middle School's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"

What Has Been Happening In Ms. Mays' Classroom? What Has Been Happening In Ms. Mays' Classroom?

Life and Future Readiness

We have just received our new workbooks from Junior Achievement! Eighth grade will be diving into the Finance Park curriculum while grades six and seven will be working with Junior Achievement Biztown. All of us have learned how to fill out deposit slips, write checks, and log our purchases into a check

register. Perhaps when parents are doing their banking, they may have the kiddos talk things through with them and show off their skills. (Remember… “deposit” means putting money INTO our accounts and “checks and debit cards” are money OUT OF our accounts).

8th Graders Head to Red Clay Alliance 8th Graders Head to Red Clay Alliance

Last Monday, our eight graders finally had their opportunity to go to Red Clay Alliance. During this STEM based trip students embarked on a journey through the Red Clay Conservation Center. Students solved situational problems throughout the day from developing a water filtration system to building a shelter that could withstand the elements of weather. In order to succeed students needed to ask, imagine, plan, create, test, and improve different aspects of each situation. They worked well together and had a great morning enjoying the outdoors.

Congratulations, Ms. Piper Taylor! This is Ms. Taylor's second year at Scott and we are so happy she is here. Ms. Taylor creates engaging and fun 8th grade math lessons and is an integral member of our 8th grade team. She is also a member of our leadership team and our school improvement team. Ms. Taylor works hard everyday to support our students and staff. She is a wonderful teacher and an amazing teammate. We are lucky to have her.

We also want to congratulate our runners up: Mr. Pearson, Mr. Hamilton and Mr. Brown. All three staff members were given a gift card to treat themselves at Dunkin Donuts. We have an amazing team here at Scott!

Fall Family Literacy Night Fall Family Literacy Night

Students, staff and families had a wonderful time at our Family Literacy Night last Thursday night at Barnes and Noble. Students were challenged to a scavenger and treated with treats. They even got the chance to meet an author! All students received a voucher for $15 to use toward the purchase of a book. A huge thanks to Ms. D'Angelo for planning this event and Barnes and Noble for hosting it.
