Weekly Notes from the Principal

Hello Erwin Middle School Families!

This is Doris Sellers and I am excited to introduce myself as the interim Principal of Clyde A Erwin Middle School for the remainder of the school year. First, may I give my appreciation to Mr. Collins for a job well done in making our school a great place for students to grow and learn. I am honored to finish the year serving the Erwin community following Mr. Collin’s retirement.

I want this transition to be successful for your child as often change is difficult. Since arriving on campus last week, I have thoroughly enjoyed the time getting to know the faculty and students. We have so much to recognize and celebrate in our school. We also want to continue in the tradition Mr. Collins has set of a safe, supportive, and caring learning environment with high expectations of staff and students. While it is a short time for me to learn the members of our school community, I will make this my priority.

Briefly, I began my career in education teaching Mathematics at North Buncombe High School prior to serving as an assistant principal. I was the principal of AC Reynolds High School for 11 years prior to my retirement. After retirement, I returned to serve as principal of North Windy Ridge Intermediate for 2 ½ years. Now, I am excited to get the opportunity to be a part of the Erwin community where I was raised. I attended Leicester Elementary, Erwin Middle, and graduated from Erwin High School. I met my husband at Erwin High School, and this community is our home. My Dad is a proud member of the first graduating class from Clyde A. Erwin High School when our current facility opened in 1956.

For this upcoming week, we still have Monday and Tuesday as Teacher Work Days. Currently, the calendar committee is preparing a recommendation to present to the board Thursday evening for making up last week’s lost instructional day due to inclement weather. We return to three busy days of instruction, completing our high school registration for our 8th graders, and a SoCon experience for 100 of our students selected from a drawing of tickets awarded by faculty and staff for recognizing the Warrior Way at Erwin Middle. Spring Sports tryouts are complete, athletes are practicing, and we will soon begin the Spring Season of competition.

As Spring approaches and I transition into this role, it is a great time to remind students to continue in the Warrior Way of making good decisions and showing kindness to others. I have been impressed at the number of our students who have been showing the 3 R’s of the Warrior Way – Ready, Respect, Responsibility! We are going to focus on closing our year strong demonstrating the Warrior Way!

Again, I look forward to these coming months at Erwin Middle School. It is going to be great working with our current assistant principals, Mrs. Morgan and Mr. Rogers, and our entire faculty and staff as we strive to provide the best environment for our students. Please let me know if I can assist you in any way. You may reach me via my email, doris.sellers@bcsemail.org or by calling our front office, 828 232-4264 and leaving a message.

Let’s have a great week ahead!
