Message from Principal Fippin
Hi Everyone,
Thank you to all the families who took the time to attend conferences this past. Having a chance to connect with each and every one of you is so important for the growth of our students. The partnership we have with all of you makes all the difference. If you weren't able to make it this week, please reach out to your teacher ASAP. It is essential we meet with all families. I have heard from several of families, what can we do to help. Below is a flyer on support classes with our Reading Intervention teacher Mrs. Wilson. She is excited to help guide families on the best strategies at home.
Big shout-out to Ms. Callahan and all the parent volunteers for putting on an amazing Book Fair this week. The kids have such a great time shopping for boos and all proceeds go directly back to funding our wonderful library. So thank you to all.
Halloween Parade- We will have our annual Halloween parade on lowers at 9 am on Friday 10/30. You do not need to be cleared by the office to attend the parade, but we do ask that you check in at the office. If you plan on volunteering in classrooms during the day, you will need to be cleared. Please remember no masks, or weapons at all during the day.
Have a great weekend,
Gerri Fippin

BCE Bears Building Character!
In September we focused on being a good friend and in October we discussed the importance of being honest. In November, our focus will be thinking of ways we can show gratitude.
Community Celebration in November
On November 18th, we will celebrate the end of our drumming classes with performances during the school day. You are welcome to come to the performance that your student is participating in. Please honor this so that we have space for families to see their student perform. BIG thank you to Ibou for teaching our BCE Bears and thank you to our amazing Parents Club for supporting this great opportunity.

October is College & Career Month!
Here are four family-friendly resources to help children explore careers, discover new interests, and learn about the many possibilities for their future!
- PBS LearningMedia: A–Z Career Lab – Explore a variety of careers through engaging educational media that helps children connect their interests and skills with different jobs.
- STEM Careers Coalition – Discover careers in science, technology, engineering, and math through videos, hands-on activities, and real-world examples of professionals solving problems and making a difference.
- Knowitall: Hot Jobs – Watch short videos featuring professionals talking about their careers, what they do, and how they got started. Children can explore jobs in fields ranging from science and education to hospitality and finance.
- CFNC: Paws in Jobland – Introduce younger children to the world of work through a playful career-exploration resource, with activities, worksheets, and lesson ideas about different jobs and workplaces.
You don't need to have all the answers! Explore these resources together and ask your child, “Which job sounds interesting to you? What skills would you need? How might you help other people by doing that job?” The goal is to encourage curiosity, not to choose a career just yet.
We are excited to invite our students, families, staff, and community to the SLVHS Fall Festival on Friday, October 30th, from 4:00–7:00 PM at the SLVHS campus!
The Fall Festival will be a fun community event featuring booths hosted by SLVHS clubs and grade-level classes, with food, games, activities, arts & crafts, music, and more!
This is also a great fundraiser for our students. All money raised at the festival will go directly to SLVHS clubs and classes, so coming out and participating is a fun way to support our students and their programs.

Don't Forget the Rules for Drop off and Pick up
Drop Off and Pick Up
We have had several issues the past couple of weeks at both drop off and pick up. Please know that all of us out at the cross walk are only trying to keep our students and families safe. I wanted to remind everyone to please first be Kind and Patient. Here are a few reminders about pick up and drop off
- You can drop off on either side of Laurel Street.
- You can NOT drop off coming up on Lomond street.
- You can only leave your car in designated parking spots on Laurel street.
- Make sure you are not parking in front of our neighbors drive ways
- On Lomond Street, you need to park in the right direction. Buses are not able to get through when cars are away from the side and parked in the wrong direction.
- When walking down Lomond Street please use the sidewalk. We have had a few close calls with kids and parents walking in the center of the street.
Thank you everyone for helping ensure safety of all of our students. Below is the parking map again for reference.
Food Services and Bus Passes
We will continue to provide free breakfast and lunch to all students this year. We do ask that you complete the application on the district webpage. It is very important that ALL families complete this form, as it helps us with funding in several different areas.
If your child will be riding the bus this year and will need a bus pass, please make sure you purchase your bus pass online here. Once you log in to LinqConnect you will see "School Store" on the bottom right hand corn. Click that to buy your pass. Any questions contact the transportation department at 831-336-2223
Please also complete the following form for all students riding the bus.
