Welcome Back to School!
Dear Heatherwood Families,
Welcome to the 2025–26 school year! We are so excited to see our hallways filled with energy, laughter, and learning once again. It’s always a joy to welcome new families and reconnect with returning ones — your partnership is a vital part of what makes our school community so strong.
As we begin this new year, we want to express our sincere appreciation for your continued support. At Heatherwood, we believe that strong school-family partnerships lead to greater success for our students. We encourage you to get involved by joining our PTA, becoming part of the Natural Leaders program, or volunteering your time in other ways. These groups play an essential role in building community and supporting both staff and students — and we’d love for you to be part of it!
Save the Date: Back-to-School Night — September 18 from 5:30 – 7:30
Please join us for Back-to-School Night on Wednesday, September 18. This is a great opportunity to meet your child’s teachers, learn more about classroom expectations, and get a feel for their daily experience here at Heatherwood. We look forward to seeing you there!
Pick-Up & Drop-Off Reminders
For a smooth and safe experience during arrival and dismissal, please keep the following in mind:
Use the upper lot or the tennis court area for both drop-off and pick-up.
If in the upper lot, please drive all the way up to the front entrance of the school along the curb only.
Please do not stop in the middle of the lot — this can cause delays and unsafe conditions for students.
To avoid congestion, we also encourage families to use the area near the tennis courts when possible.
Thank you for helping us keep things safe and efficient for everyone!
Cell Phones: "Bell to Bell – No Cell!"
In accordance with Everett Public Schools Policy 3246, middle school students are not permitted to use cell phones or personal electronic devices (PEDs) during the school day.
We kindly ask that you avoid sending text messages to your student during school hours. Doing so may unintentionally encourage them to check or respond to messages, which can lead to disciplinary consequences.
If communication is necessary during the school day, please contact the front office. We will ensure your message is delivered promptly.
Thank you for supporting a focused and distraction-free learning environment.

Fall I-Ready Diagnostic Testing
To better understand our students’ academic needs, we’ll be administering the Fall I-Ready Diagnostic assessments in reading and math on September 16 and 17 during Hawk Time classes. These tests help guide our instruction and ensure students receive the support they need to succeed.
Please help your child come to school well-rested and ready to do their best. More details will be shared with students soon.
Student Conductor Attendance System
Our school has partnered with Student Conductor in the implementation of a new, more effective tardy and hall pass processing system. Here are the things that you need to know.
There are multiple check-in kiosk stations located throughout the school.
When tardy, the student will use the nearest check-in kiosk station to get them back into class efficiently.
Every time a student is tardy, an email and/or text message is sent to a parent/guardian notifying them that the student was tardy. Any discipline assigned will also be notified to the parent/guardian.
The school will also process all cell phone violations and bathroom hall passes using the student conductor system.
The process is simple when a student is tardy, has a cellphone violation, or uses the restroom.
They type their Student ID into the nearest Check-In Tardy Station.
The student takes the tardy receipt and reads the note that has been assigned for being tardy.
The student reports to class and shows the tardy receipt to their teacher as a pass to class.
Tardies greater than 7 are assigned a lunch detention for discipline. Students serve this during their lunch.
Cell phone violations are processed in the main office. Students are sent to the office when asked to turn in their phone.
Restroom pass- QR codes are in every classroom. Students use their Chromebooks to scan the code and then take a laminated hall pass to the bathroom. Upon return, students type their ID number into their Chromebook and return to their seat.

Safety is always a top priority. We will be holding our first evacuation drill later this month as part of our ongoing emergency preparedness efforts.

A Word From Our Counselors
Welcome to the 2025-26 school year, Heatherwood Hawks! We hope you all had a wonderful summer and are ready to start this school year strong! As the school year starts rolling out, here are some strategies to help our students get the best start possible!
Attendance: Arriving at school on-time and consistently is a significant key to success for students.
Health: Getting adequate sleep and nourishment is incredibly important. Starting the day with something healthy gives the fuel our growing students need for a positive start! If mornings are rushed at home, know that our cafeteria offers breakfast before school starts. Further, getting 8-10 hours of sleep is incredibly important for our students to feel refreshed in the morning.
Absences: Encourage your student to email or talk with their teachers about what they missed and how they can make up for any missed work. Middle school is a great time to help students take ownership of their learning by communicating with teachers either by email, or in person. Teachers will oftentimes have pre-established routines of what students should do if they are absent; parents and students can refer to teacher websites and syllabi for more information.
Organizational skills: Everyone is different to what organization system works best for them. Work with your middle schooler to identify the supplies and home routines they need to be successful this school year. Binders, planners, online resources, and supplies can vary depending on personal preferences. If there are any financial or physical school needs, please reach out to your grade level counselor for additional resources/materials.
School Involvement: Students who are involved with a club or sport feel more connected to school, which leads to improved attendance and achievement. Heatherwood offers a variety of clubs and sports for students to get involved in. Clubs/sports are natural opportunities for students to build friendships and life skills alongside their peers. Our Virtual Club Fair during lunches the week of September 15 - 19. Clubs will begin on September 29.
Social: Get to know your middle schooler’s friends and their parents. The influence of peers becomes greater as students enter their pre-teen/teenage years. Continue talking with your student about who they are spending time with at school. Know your middle schooler’s whereabouts outside of school hours. Meet the parents/guardians of who your student is spending time with…parents benefit from having a support network with one another, as well!
Please feel free to reach out to grade level counselors this upcoming school year!
