MSS/JDP Attendance Challenge

Absence Note Procedures

We need your help! It is critical for your child to attend school daily, unless he or she is ill. Each student is bringing home new attendance note pads to be completed anytime your child is absent from school. If your child misses a day of school, a note signed by you should accompany your child when they return to school. If the absence is for three or more days, then a doctor’s note is required to return to school. You may also use REMIND to communicate your student’s absence.

Weekly Challenge: Any student who has NO unexcused absences will receive special recognition and a prize for great attendance!

Monthly: Any student with no more than (1) unexcused absences will receive special recognition and have the opportunity to choose some from cool school prizes!

Marking Period 3 Challenge: This marking period we are also targeting no more than (3) unexcused absences for your child. The student will receive special recognition and win some cool prizes.

Reminder: Absences due to medical/mental health appointments DO NOT count as unexcused absences. Notes for the absences are still required.

If you have any questions regarding attendance , please reach out to Principal Sarah Stare or Emily Jones, PPW

HELLO FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE! HELLO FROM THE HEALTH OFFICE!

Hello from the Marshall Street/JDP Health Office Nurses! As we head into sick season, we want to share a few important reminders for our families to help keep your children healthy and comfortable. Please take a moment to review these helpful tips, as they are key to preventing illness and supporting your child’s well-being during this time of year. Let’s work together to keep our students safe and healthy!

TIP# 1-Visual Reminders and Routine: Create a consistent hygiene routine using visual aids, such as pictures or step-by-step charts, to remind children to wash their hands, brush their teeth, and keep their personal spaces clean. Consistency is key for children and a structured routine can make hygiene practices easier to follow.

TIP#2-Gentle and Non-Toxic Products: Choose gentle, hypoallergenic soaps, shampoos, and cleaning products that are free of harsh chemicals. Some children with special needs may have sensitivities or allergies, so it’s important to avoid products that could irritate their skin or cause discomfort.

TIP#3-Supervised Hand washing and Assistance: Some children may need extra support with activities like hand washing or tooth brushing. Parents can provide hands-on guidance and make sure children wash their hands properly. It might be helpful to use a step stool for children who need extra support to reach sinks or mirrors.

TIP#4-Social Skills Practice for Hygiene: For some children with special needs, it’s helpful to practice hygiene tasks in a calm, structured environment. Parents can role-play or use social stories to explain the importance of hygiene and how to complete tasks like washing hands, brushing teeth, and using the restroom.

TIP#5-Create a Safe and Clean Environment: Some children with special needs may be more prone to infections or skin sensitivities. Ensure that their personal items, such as clothing, bedding, and toys, are regularly washed and disinfected. Additionally, regularly cleaning high-touch surfaces and creating a clutter-free environment can help reduce the risk of germs spreading.
