Reminder from Ms. O'Rourke about ELA books Reminder from Ms. O'Rourke about ELA books

In anticipation of the move to the new middle school, all ELA novels are being inventoried and packed up. There are a number of students who borrowed novels during Term 1, 2 and 3 and did not return them. Please be on the lookout for emails from your students ELA teacher and encourage students to check at home and in their lockers for these novels. If these books cannot be located, please replace the book or reimburse us so we can order additional copies. Thank you for attention to this matter.

Grade 8 Civics in Action Projects: Helping the Homeless Grade 8 Civics in Action Projects: Helping the Homeless

Dear BMS families,

The eighth-graders are organizing two events as part of our Civics-in-Action project. First, we are planning a Bird Middle School "Walk to End Homelessness". On this Sunday, May 19th, Bird students and staff will gather at the school at 10:00 A. M. We will walk down Washington St. To Bird Park, do a loop around the park, come out on Pleasant St., walk down to Rt. 27 and then back to the school, a total of around five miles. Participants will have gotten sponsors who pledge to donate some amount of money. Of course, we would be delighted to accept donations even from students who do not participate in the walk. All proceeds will go to an organization called "Friends of Boston's Homeless", which helps place homeless families in permanent housing.

Friends of Boston's Homeless also creates "housewarming gift baskets" to help recently homeless families turn their new apartment into a home. We have chosen to do a "Toiletries Drive" to help create these gift baskets. Starting on May 6th, there will be large boxes in the link. We will be asking students to bring in the following items: bars of soap, shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, razors, shaving cream, lotion, body wash, and deodorant. Our goal is to have every student bring in at least one item. The toiletries drive will run for three weeks, ending on Friday, May 24th. Thank you!
