"The 2026 theme for Black History Month is "A Century of Black History Commemorations," marking the historic 100th anniversary of the national celebration established by Dr. Carter G. Woodson in 1926. Designated by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH), the theme focuses on the evolution of Black history from a single week into a global movement that empowers communities and corrects historical narratives. This centennial milestone emphasizes the importance of preserving an accurate and inclusive history while celebrating the profound impact that a century of organized study and public recognition has had on the African diaspora and the broader world".
