Hello Lincoln Community,

Back at Lincoln! After a couple of Snow Days and the President's Day Holiday, it was good to be back together at Lincoln. The warming weather and evenings staying light a little later has been a welcome change. It's a good reminder that Spring is right around the corner.

Coming Soon: Remember that next week on Wednesday evening we'll host an Arts & Literacy Night at 6:00 pm. That evening we'll have literacy games, a book giveaway, and art stations. Our Lincoln choir and dance group will perform. We'll also have information available for the Woodburn Library and our SMART Readers program. See the flyer included above for information on this event.

Read Across America Week: From March 3rd through the 7th, we'll join schools across the nation in celebrating Read Across America week. Each day of the week has a specific theme and it provides a fun way for our Lincoln community to celebrate reading together. Please see the flyer below for details on this, and so you can plan ahead for that week.

Questions: As always, please feel free to send your questions or feedback to us at teresa.alfaro@woodburnsd.org or pmcdougal@woodburnsd.org.

Go Dolphins!

Sincerely,

Teresa Alfaro - Principal

Peter McDougal - Assistant Principal

Will We Make Up the Snow Days? Will We Make Up the Snow Days?

zoom_out_map

Answer: To Be Determined

After we have snow days, people sometimes wonder how the district handles making up the days missed. First, it may be helpful to know that decisions regarding potential make-up days are made by the School Board. For now, it's too soon to know whether or not the school board will decide to make up all, some, or none of the missed instructional days. Typically the board waits until it becomes unlikely that we'll have any more inclement weather (after the winter season) to make this decision, which is generally by no later than the April regular school board meeting. In the meantime, you can check out the 2024-2025 school calendar: those brown calendar days in June (6/13, 6/16, and 6/17) are set aside in case the board decides to make up the time.

Pedestrian Safety Tips When Coming To School and Going Home

Multiple times each year we instruct and remind our students about safety on buses and during the arrival and dismissal process. We also stress the importance of being careful and safe when traveling to and from school and any time when we're out in the community. Here are some of the important points to keep in mind.

  • Walking: Using identified walking paths, obeying all traffic laws/signals, being aware of surroundings, wearing clothes that make you easily seen by cars, share your walking path with your parents so they know, keep eyes and ears open.
  • Biking: Making sure bike is correctly functioning as intended (brakes, reflectors, etc.), make sure you have proper safety gear, obey all traffic laws/signals, be aware of your surroundings, wear clothes that make you easily visible, keep eyes and ears open, use lighting at night, share your path with your parents so they know.
  • Rail Safety: Only cross at designated areas, keep eyes and ears open, be aware of your surroundings, follow all traffic laws/signals.

When Picking Up Your Student(s)

Please follow our designated traffic patterns. Here are some guidelines:

  1. Unless you're in an actual parking spot, be sure to stay in your vehicle.
  2. Similar to at an airport, we can't have unattended vehicles in the driving lanes (this includes the French Prairie MS parking lot too).
  3. Follow staff directions.
  4. Pull up to the forward-most pick up spot.
  5. Take care to always be vigilant when pulling out after picking up your student.

Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance Every Day Matters - Focus on Attendance

zoom_out_map

This year we are continuing to pay close attention to ensuring that children are present at school regularly, because Every Day Matters.

Setting High Goals: We're focusing on attendance because last year 58% of our students were regular attenders (attended more than 90% of the days) and 42% were chronically absent (attended less than 90% of the days). The 58% was an improvement from the previous year when we had 51% of our students who were regular attenders. For the current school year our school leadership has set the goal to improve from 58% up to 70%. WE CAN DO IT!

So Important: There's a very strong correlation between good attendance and student success in school. Please see the visual below for more information.
