Westfield Principal Kristen Ulery
Westfield families:
Thank you to everyone who participated in the Penny Wars. We will announce the winners next week. As we continue the ABC countdown, I've included the calendar of themes below for a quick reminder. The last classes will finish MAP testing Monday and Tuesday.
I hope you have a wonderful Mothers' Day weekend!
Kristen Ulery
Westfield Principal
Arrival supervision begins at 8:30 a.m.
Arrival supervision does not begin until 8:30 a.m., so students walking or being dropped off should not arrive before that time. If you arrive before 8:30 a.m., please stay with your child until supervisors arrive outside. We appreciate your help in keeping everyone safe.
Congratulations to IPA award winners
Every year, two fifth graders in each building receive an award from the Illinois Principals' Association for being hard-working scholars who demonstrate outstanding leadership and kindness. We have so many students who exhibit these characteristics, but we congratulate Carena and Maya who were Westfield's honorees this year.
Girls on the Run fundraiser
The Girls on the Run team has planned a fundraiser to benefit Good Samaritan Hospital. They will be collecting donations all week, and the pod that raises the most money will receive a pajama and movie reward day with popcorn.
They will also be selling bracelets that the girls made. The bracelets will be sold for $1.00 at lunch on Wednesday.
Drama performance
This afternoon, the drama club performed their version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for grades 3-5. They worked very hard learning their lines and doing the costumes and scenery, and they did a great job. Thanks to Karl Mennecke, Lindsey Goushas, and Natalie Kielion for all of the time they've spent as sponsors for this group.
Westfield student newspaper
The latest edition of the Westfield student newsletter is here! The newspaper club worked hard on this edition, and they did a great job. Click this link to check it out: https://aptg.co/R9FBts
Thanks to sponsors Abby Coran and Karl Mennecke for their time and leadership with our budding journalists!
Remind your students: no eating on the bus
The district’s bus company has reached out with concerns about an increasing amount of food being eaten or left on the bus. Students should not be eating on the bus. Eating food on the bus is a choking and allergy hazard. Additionally, a significant amount of food is being thrown on the floor, rather than taken home for nutrition. Please have a conversation with your child about his reminder.
Part-time Preschool Opening 26-27 School Year
Briar Glen is seeking a part-time Early Childhood/PreK Teacher for a blended preschool classroom for the 2026–2027 school year.
Qualified candidates must hold an Illinois Professional Educator License with appropriate Early Childhood, Special Education, and English Learner endorsements. Click here to apply.
Topographic survey of DuPage River Trail
The DuPage County Division of Transportation will be conducting a survey for the East Branch DuPage River Trail project, so over the next couple of weeks, you may see surveyors near Westfield, particularly at the back of the field behind the playground. They will be working in teams and will be wearing yellow vests, so if you see people out there, that's what they are doing.

Resources for helping your child through difficult times
Tragedy can affect a nation or a single family. Some crises happen suddenly while others build over time. Each situation can be difficult for children to understand and challenging for families to navigate. Our school has a counselor, social worker, and psychologist available to help students and families with strategies for transparent, age-appropriate conversations. The district has also posted additional resources at www.ccsd89.org/crisis
Students, families can report crises and threats through Safe2Help
Students and families can confidentially call, email, or text the Safe2Help tip line to report bullying, threats, or classmates in crisis. Students or families can call (844) 4-SAFE-IL, (which is 844-472-3345); text SAFE2 (which is 72332); email Help@Safe2HelpIL.com; or submit tips through the online form. Safe2Help submissions are monitored every hour of every day. More info: https://bit.ly/3BPxObO
Need tech support for your student's school computer?
