Captain's Corner

This October our students in Kindergarten, 1st, 3rd, and 5th grades—as well as 2nd and 4th graders new to District 5—participated in our annual Vision and Hearing Screenings. Early detection is key to ensuring every child has the best opportunity to succeed in the classroom!

What you need to know:

• Re-checks: Some results indicated the need for a re-check in the health room. The health room is gradually working on re-checking those indicated.

• No news is good news: If your child’s results were within normal limits, you will not receive a notice.

• Referral Letters: Some results indicated the need for referral for further evaluation. If you receive a referral letter, please schedule an appointment with an eye care provider or hearing specialist.

• Help us stay updated: If you schedule an appointment or have already seen a specialist, please notify the health room with the date/time or send in a copy of the report. The school nurse is required to document this follow-up care.

In the event of an early dismissal due to inclement weather, our Student Nutrition Department will make meals available to students before they leave school. Students who receive a meal will be charged according to their regular meal status.

If you do not want your child to receive a meal during an inclement weather early dismissal, please email NutritionServices@lexrich5.org in advance of the weather event.
