Principal's Message
Dear Hiteon Community,
This month, I am especially proud of our amazing Hiteon students. They created over 500 Valentine notes for senior citizens who may be feeling lonely or strugglingโand each one was made with care and kindness. These Valentines will be delivered by Heidi, who also happens to be the parent of one of our wonderful fifth graders, Araya. February is a busy and exciting month at Hiteon with an OMSI assembly, science fair classroom presentations, SEL Night, Cultural Night, McTeacher Night and BrightStar Student Theater Presentation! We hope you can find time to gather with us for one or more of these events, because what truly makes Hiteon strong is the relationships within our community.

Arrival & Dismissal Traffic Flow
We want to remind everyone of the importance to follow the BSD traffic flow map for Hiteon's arrival and dismissal procedure. For those parents that do car drop off and pick up the safety of our students, parents and community is of upmost importance. We want to assure that traffic flows as smooth as possible in our parking lot as well as on our neighboring streets.
Please remember that the ONLY EXIT from the Hiteon parking lot is the Brockman Driveway and to ALWAYS ONLY TURN RIGHT out of the parking lot. This will assure that the traffic does not backup into the parking lot.

Why 7:44? Because at 7:45 am, the learning fun begins! Being in the classroom by 7:44 means your child is ready to roll when the bell rings. Every Minute Matters! Arrive on time = start the day with a smile. No rushing, no missing morning fun. Builds habits that help kids shine for a lifetime.
Tips to Beat the Clock: Pick out clothes and pack backpacks the night before. Set an earlier โleave the houseโ time than you think. Try to be on campus by 7:35 am for a calm start.
Please note that the doors will close at 7:45 a.m., and students arriving after this time will be counted as tardy. Letโs make mornings smooth and start every day strong!

Parent Visiting During Lunches
Parents at Lunches
Recently the question of parents joining their students during lunch times came up again. Parents are not allowed to have lunch with their child in the cafeteria. This is a District wide policy for the reasons below.
Student Safety
In our cafeterias, we can have upwards of 100 children, typically with only 2-3 staff members present. Those staff members are busy attending to students' needs. We simply don't have enough staff in that space to sufficiently supervise adult visitors and the potential contact those adults may have with other students. Even if those adults have passed a background check as part of the volunteer process, staff are still required to have "sight or sound" supervision for the safety of all children.
Student Disruption
Based on previous experiences, having adults in the cafeteria can result in possible disruptions. There have been cases of parents injecting themselves into student conflicts. This has not been the case here at Hiteon, but in other schools in the District. Parents may lack the training and context that our teachers have for dealing with these types of student situations; we do not want to have parents "disciplining" students.
Thank you for your understanding.

Hiteon Library Fun
Mrs. Sadlouskos always finds fun ways to get our students involved with great ways to get them interested in reading. WHO WOULD WIN? That's the big question for this weekend.

Good For The Heart
How do you celebrate Valentine's Day? Walking or rolling to school is not only good for your heart, walking and biking to school gives kids 2/3 of their suggested daily exercise. Plus, it's a great way to start the day with some fresh air and physical activity!
Studies have shown that physically active kids have better academic performance, and that exposure to nature and outdoor play can reduce stress and help alleviate ADHD symptoms. Walking and biking to school is also beneficial for communities, as it reduces air pollution and lowers childhood asthma rates. So why not make the switch to a healthy, active commute?
Bueno para el Corazรณn
ยฟCรณmo celebraste San Valentรญn?

Immunization Exclusion Day - February 25th
State law requires that all children in public and private schools, preschools, Head Start and certified child care facilities have up-to-date immunizations or have a medical or nonmedical exemption.
Parents/guardians will receive a letter in early February if their childโs immunization record shows that they have not received the required vaccinations. Children wonโt be able to attend school or child care starting February 25, if their records on file show missing immunizations.
The Beaverton High School-Based Health Center and the Merlo Station Campus-Based Health Center are both resources for BSD families to get immunizations.

Fun Run Sponsorship Opportunities
The Hiteon PTC invites you to partner with us as a Fun Run Sponsor! The Fun Run is our main fundraiser, supporting programs like the Science Fair, Art Literacy, and Oregon Battle of the Books, as well as community-building events including Bingo Night, Spring Carnival, and Trunk or Treat. Our combined funds raised also help provide new technology, school assemblies, field trips, and other student enrichment opportunities.
We can't do this without our amazingly supportive community! This year, we are offering 3 levels of sponsorship: Community Partner, School Champion and Hawk Hero. Check out the attached flyer to see the benefits from the different levels! If you sponsored in the past, THANK YOU! We hope you will consider sponsoring again this year!
Please, reach out to hiteonfunrun@hiteonptc.org for more information.
Thank you!!!!

Volunteer Check-In Requirements
It has come to our attention that thereโs a need for clarification regarding school volunteers and whether they are required to sign in through the Raptor kiosk. In short, the answer is YES.
While volunteers may use the Raptor Safe app to sign up for events in advance, this action does not constitute official check-in upon arrival. Signing up through the app simply indicates intent to participate, it does not sign them into the event. This distinction is critical for two key reasons:
Mandatory Sex Offender Screening: The real-time background check is only triggered when a volunteer checks in at the on-site Raptor tablet kiosk. Without this step, the required screening doesnโt occur.
Emergency Accountability: If a volunteer is not signed in through the kiosk, the school has no record of their presence on campus. This poses a serious risk in the event of an emergency where accurate headcount and location tracking are essential.
Every volunteer must physically check in at the kiosk each time that they arrive on campus. This is the only way to ensure compliance with safety protocols and to maintain a secure environment for our students and staff.
If you haven't done your background check to volunteer at Hiteon, you can start on the Volunteer webpage on the district website. The entire process โ including the review of the Child Abuse Prevention & Reporting and Adult Sexual Misconduct training materials โ should take less than 10 minutes to complete.
Thank you for prioritizing our studentsโ safety and for your willingness to volunteer in BSD.
