Trunk or Treat 25 October- We have PSO Chairfolks!
Please mark your calendar for the 6th Annual Osgood Fall Festival Trunk or Treat event to be held in the Osgood Parking Lot on Friday, October 25th from 4:30-5:30pm. We are so excited to bring back this fall family event for another year!
We are looking for 22 "Trunk Hosts" for this event. Please sign up to be a trunk host here! The Trunk or Treat is an allergen-friendly event and only non-food treats are handed out.
We are continuing the "trinket" drive this year now through October 21st. Any donated trinkets will then be reused and handed out at this year's event. Please ensure items are clean and in usable condition. Some examples of trinkets are the following: arcade toys, fast food toys, mini erasers, spider rings, fake bugs, fake tattoos, stickers, pencils, bouncy balls, and small toys. Clean out those drawers and toy bins! There is a collection bin on the porch of 11 Tad Lane.
Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions: osgood@cohassetpso.org

From the Health Office
- We have begun the mandated health screenings starting with kindergarten. We screen vision and hearing. If you do not hear from us, it is good news. If your student requires additional testing we will contact you.
- Cold weather is starting, please remember to have students wear close toed footwear for recess and layers!
- This time of year, it is a good practice to inspect your student's hair. The health office does not perform screenings.
Thank you,
Mrs. Gildea and Mrs. Crough
Osgood Playground
I sent a message last week regarding playground use after school. It continues to be a safety and liability concern, as we have a school program, RISE, running on campus after school. We acknowledge that families are waiting for Deer Hill students and children play during that time, which is fine. However, the playground will re-close to the public at 3:45 on school days. I acknowledge that this affects family plans for after school activities. I encourage you to make use of the Deer Hill playground and other public spaces until the RISE program ends at 6:00pm.

A Note About Homework
For homework, as a school, we are prioritizing time with books, playing with numbers in daily life, and developing scholarly habits. This also connects with our community read, The Anxious generation, as we intend to keep the demand light so that children have time for unstructured play after school. Additionally, they will develop some independence around readying themselves for school. Teachers will ask students to do the following on school nights:
Spend at least 20 minutes per day with books and numbers (2nd grade will have a reading log to complete)
Prepare yourself for school the next day (snack, water bottle, folder, jacket, prepare your lunch, etc.)
Spending time with books might look like "reading" the pictures, having someone read to you, reading to others, or reading independently. Time with numbers might be authentic experiences such as counting their goldfish snacks by twos or thinking about how to divide the 12 cupcakes among 3 family members.
You may ask yourself: What if our family wants to do more?
Teachers send family letters that connect to curriculum periodically. There are typically ideas for games and activities you can do at home to reinforce some of the skills students are learning at school. Additionally, in the coming weeks, teachers will send home the Bridges Home Connections booklets, which contain additional activities and games. We recognize that sometimes children will be on devices at home and you may want them doing something productive on them. We are building a list of resources that we have seen to be quality programs and will share that with you (stay tuned).
Safe Snack List
Please pack your child's snack separate from their lunch.
Transportation
For information regarding school transportation, please visit the transportation page on the new CPS website. All students must be registered through transportation to ride the bus. However, buses are full at this time and they are placing students on wait lists.
