Students in Mrs. Turner's Theatre Arts Classes are exploring tableau. Tableau is a drama technique that supports comprehension in core subjects including reading, writing, and social studies. Active and collaborative, tableau requires students to truly engage with the content while becoming an effective partner in learning.

Students in Mrs. Hayes' health classes visited the Advantage Academy last week to hear from a panel of students who are currently enrolled in various programs. Students were able to ask questions and receive information from the school counselor, Mr. Dubose. Additionally, students were able to make direct connections to their Individual Graduation Plan (IGP) that they recently completed with Mr. Stokes, the career counselor.

It is safe to say, the students definitely learned about the advantages of enrolling in courses at our Advantage Academy.

Mrs. Dawkins has been named as an Honor Roll Teacher!

Honor Roll Teachers are finalists in the quest to name a Teacher of the Year for Florence 1 Schools. They are: Carver Elementary's Cynthia Watson; Lester Elementary's Emily Leaphart; Southside Middle's Ashley Dawkins and Timrod Elementary's Taneisha Muldrow.

The Teacher of the Year Selection Committee has been scheduled to hold interview sessions separately with the honor roll teachers next week. Scores from the interview and application packet will be calculated, and Florence 1's Teacher of the Year will be announced by Superintendent Dr. Richard O’Malley.

The Florence 1 Teacher of the Year's name will be submitted to the South Carolina Department of Education, and the Florence 1 Schools Teacher of the Year will then vie for the title of South Carolina Teacher of the Year, having until January 2022 to complete the South Carolina Department of Education's application packet.

Southside Middle School has two full-time school nurses on staff to serve our students and staff. The Health Office is located at the end of the 100 Hall.
