Student Safety & Technology
The middle school years are an exciting time as students begin to develop greater independence, spend more time with friends, and take on new responsibilities. As parents, educators, and community partners, we share an important role in helping our students navigate this growing independence safely and confidently.
With this in mind, we wanted to share a few reminders about personal safety, particularly as students become more connected through cell phones, social media, and other forms of communication.
Unfortunately, phone scams and other deceptive communications sometimes involve individuals pretending to be emergency responders or claiming that a family member is in danger. These situations are often designed to create fear and urgency, making it difficult to pause and verify information.
We encourage families to take a few minutes to talk with their middle school students about some simple safety practices:
Be cautious with personal information. Remind students not to share their location, school, phone number, or other personal details with people they do not know.
Pause before responding. If a call, text, or online message seems suspicious or creates a sense of urgency, students should stop and check with a trusted adult.
Stay connected. Encourage students to tell parents or caregivers where they are going, who they are with, and how to reach them.
Know who to turn to. Help students identify trusted adults at home, at school, and in the community whom they can contact if something does not feel right.
Verify unexpected information. If someone contacts you with concerning information about your child, reach out directly to the school, Youth Center, or another trusted source to confirm the situation.
Our goal is not to create worry, but rather to help students develop the awareness, confidence, and good judgment they need as they become more independent.
We appreciate your partnership in helping them make safe, thoughtful decisions both in school and throughout our community.
Knights Closet Pop-Up Event is November 17th
NAMS Private School/Technical School Application Process
NAMS Private School/Technical School Application Process
We understand the importance of finding the right school for your child and will support them throughout this process. If your child is planning on applying to a private high school or technical high school we ask that you reference the following link to download all necessary documents as well as to familiarize yourself with our process and requirements.
Please have your child fill out the information sheet and provide an electronic copy to your child's guidance counselor as well as any teacher who is writing a recommendation. This information is incredibly helpful as our wish is to provide a comprehensive evaluation of your child's strengths, accomplishments and overall skill set.
School Counselors 2025-2026
Grade 7 - gosselinj@northandoverpublicschools.com
Grade 8 - chuteg@northandoverpublicschools.com
We ask parents and students to research private high schools on their own. The counseling department does not provide information or applications regarding private high schools, however, we will assist your child by writing recommendations and sending all supporting documents.
For "on-line" recommendations, the guidance department completes the "school report" (i.e. "principal/counselor recommendation" and "transcript" form). "Personal" and "Special Interest" recommendations are generally completed by someone other than the school counselor.
Please Note:
Trimester 1 ends on December 4, 2026 which means that transcripts cannot be uploaded prior to this date.
All private/technical school applications that have been given to Ms. Chute will be uploaded when transcripts are available. We will make every effort to upload your child's applications by the identified due date.

MPY Annual Poster and Public Service Announcement (PSA) Project
The theme for this year's project is: HELP YOU, HELP ME, HELP US
Celebrate the incredible ripple effect of collaboration and connection! When we team up, our individual efforts multiply into a collective superpower. Whether you are in kindergarten or a senior in high school, we want to see your vision. Grab your markers and cameras, and show us how working together shapes a brighter, more connected world. Your creativity has the power to inspire change, strengthen connections, and build a brighter future. We can't wait to see your ideas!
The MPY Poster and PSA Project is open to all students from MPY member districts. The POSTER online submission deadline is Friday, January 29, 2027. The PSA online submission deadline is Friday, April 9, 2027. For additional information, please contact Wendy Leone at wendy@mpyinc.org.
