Finished Early Activities
Tech Tip Tuesday (February 21, 2023)
Keep it educational, even when they're finished with their assignments!
"I'm done. I'm going to watch YouTube."
A tough and common situation for most educators, especially the elementary educators
Yes, it's probably easier for management because the student isn't disrupting others, but creating a culture of lifelong learning and exploration can keep students engaged even when they are finished with their assigned work.
As educators, we always want to learn independently and we won't get many times after graduation to consistently have time and space to learn.
If you're looking for something other than independent reading (a favorite of mine still), check out some ideas below!
Here are some quick recs with tech!
Elementary (K-5) Recommendations
1️⃣ Keep them learning CCSS ELA & Math skills with SplashLearn! Check to see if it's approved for your district.
2️⃣ NitroType is fun, but it doesn't teach those skills you'd like them to get better. Try EduTyping to help with that!
3️⃣ The internet is a dangerous place. Have students play Interland from Google to learn a bit more while learning how to take care of themselves and others online!
Secondary (6-12) Recommendations
1️⃣ iCivics is full of easy ways for students to engage with learning about their government and play some interesting scenarios, especially through games!
2️⃣ Google Arts & Culture is a great resource for any classroom lesson, but let students take a field trip to ancient Mesopotamia or discover Mayan culture through an engaging game!
3️⃣ Teaching how to code is not always at the forefront of every teacher's toolkit. Use Code.org to have the website take that load off of you to have students work on those skills!
