The Franklin Academy Sidewalks are Open For Decoration During the Chalk Festival!
Flip Breskin is organizing this event and has reached out to our school community to join in this fun event!
The Annual 4th of July event at Elizabeth Park has been cancelled this year, so Flip came up with a fun, creative way to celebrate, and still be safely distanced.
If you live in the neighborhood, please decorate your sidewalk, or play your instrument during the tour. If not, you can sign up to decorate at either of the TFA buildings. Just use the school address, 1509 E. Victor St. when you sign up with this link: https://columbianeighborhood.org/chalk/ I have sets of chalk for you to use as well.
Here is a little more information from Flip directed to everyone who lives, works, or goes to school in Columbia is our neighbor!
Columbia Neighbors, please join us on July 4th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM to play with chalk on the sidewalk in front of your own home. This is for all ages, from pre-schoolers to adults, beginners to professionals. And then we can all tour the neighborhood from 2:00 to 5:00 PM to see our fun creations! Musicians can sign up to play from their front porches. You will also be able to upload chalk photos to this website so that anyone who wants to, can take a virtual tour. You can invite all your friends and distant family to view online without concern about crowds.
How it works: Use the button below to fill out the sign-up form. This will collect some personal information (which we will only use to coordinate with you and will never share or exploit in any way), and the location where you plan to chalk/play music, etc. We will add your location onto the map, and a description if you’d like to add one.
There’s a place on the sign-up page to request chalk if you need it. Please try to provide your own chalk, and find it as soon as possible, because chalk seems to be in short supply this year. If you are unable to find your own, there is a place on the registration form to request chalk. We have a limited supply, so request early. We will try our best to fill all requests.
There is also a place to request space if you don’t have a sidewalk out front. And a place to donate the sidewalk in front of your own house if no one is planning to use it. If you sign up right away, we have a good chance of being able to get enough chalk for everyone who requests it. And I’ll have some clue about how many volunteers we may need. There are sign-ups on the form for volunteers as well.
This is a community project If you have ideas of how to make this better, would like to get involved, or have other suggestions email Flip Breskin: flip@columbianeighborhood.org
