Mr. Cullen's Weekly Update
Keeping Our District Connected and Committed to Excellence

Week of October 19, 2026 - October 23, 2026
Elevate Every Learner
MTPS Community,
As we conclude another productive week across our district, the momentum within our school community continues to build. Across our campuses, our amazing students and talented educators are immersed in meaningful learning experiences, fueled by curiosity, collaboration, and a shared commitment to educational excellence.
A central element of our vision to “Elevate Every Learner” is ensuring that every student has the opportunity to realize their limitless potential. Our classrooms reflect this commitment through thoughtfully designed instruction that is engaging, active, and responsive to students’ needs. Throughout the week, students participated in whole-class learning experiences, targeted small-group instruction, and focused independent activities. Within these dynamic environments, students continually problem-solve, think critically, and apply standards-aligned skills under the guidance of our exceptional educators.
Today marked an important milestone with the distribution of our district’s first K-3 progress reports. These reports serve as a resource for strengthening home-school partnerships and monitoring individual growth. By fostering ongoing, informed communication between families and educators, we can work collaboratively to recognize progress, identify opportunities for additional support, and ensure that every learner continues to thrive. Following thoughtful discussion, collaboration, and planning surrounding a pilot approach to scheduling parent-teacher meetings, which we greatly value for the meaningful opportunities they provide to discuss student performance and progress, additional information regarding the scheduling process will be shared with the community next week.
Fall events are also in full swing across our campuses, creating memorable experiences that bring students, families, and staff together. We are genuinely grateful for the leadership, creativity, and countless hours invested by our parent organizations in facilitating these wonderful events. Their efforts enrich our schools and truly exemplify the spirit of partnership that makes Middletown so special.
Similarly, our co-curricular programs and fall athletics are flourishing. It is truly inspiring to see our students pursuing their interests with such enthusiasm, demonstrating perseverance, and striving to achieve their goals both inside and outside the classroom. These opportunities contribute significantly to students’ personal growth while fostering teamwork, confidence, and a lasting sense of belonging.
As part of this week’s newsletter, you will find a Special Edition Parent Academy for Continued Excellence (PACE) presentation from Dr. Kerrigan regarding the SAT and ACT. We encourage families to explore this useful college preparation resource. Looking ahead, next week’s PACE session will feature important information about Amplify Desmos, our new K–5 mathematics program, providing families with insight into this exciting instructional program.
Our learning community is truly special because it is a community in every sense of the word - one built on powerful relationships, shared purpose, and a collective commitment to student success. I encourage you to visit our Middletown Moments Padlet for a glimpse of the outstanding learning, accomplishments, and memorable events taking place across each of our campuses.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support as we work together to Elevate Every Learner and ensure that every student has the opportunity to unleash their limitless potential.
Sincerely,
Kevin G. Cullen
Interim Superintendent
Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum, Instruction, & Special Education
